A US citizen who arrived in Malaysia after disembarking in Cambodia from the MS Westerdam cruise ship has tested positive for the new coronavirus, the Malaysia Health Ministry said on Saturday. The 83-year-old American woman flew to Malaysia on Friday from Cambodia along with 144 others from the ship, said Malaysian health ministry, adding that her 85-year-old husband had tested negative. The MS Westerdam, which had 1,455 passengers and 802 crew on board, had been stranded at sea for two weeks after being turned away from five countries the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Thailand over coronavirus fears, before docking at Cambodia on Thursday.

The cruise ship was at sea for two weeks. I understand none of the passengers tested positive for Coronavirus before they got off the ship.
Possibilities:
I understand none of the passengers tested positive for Coronavirus before they got off the ship.
the test only catches 30-50% of the cases on the first try according to some data
and i don’t think they tested everyone on the ship
she wasn’t off the ship that long...24 hours..i doubt she got it after the ship
Where was the last port visit before quarantine and Cambodia. We are having dinner with people who just returned from Cambodia two days ago.
Where was the last port visit before quarantine and Cambodia.
The Westerdam, run by the US-based Holland America Line, departed Hong Kong on 1 February with 1,455 passengers and 802 crew on board.

They also did not quarantine people in their cabins, before this news. Who knows how many are now infected? The Cambodian Prime Minister even ugged at least one passenger from the ship...
So it is possible she carried the infection from HK.

not sure,,,,
did all the passengers get onboard in HK ? or was she already on the ship before the stop? did she even get off on HK?
no way to know..need more research

The women’s husband has symptoms as well but so far he has tested negative for coronavirus. It’s unknown if this will have any effects for people who are still on Westerdam
They used the Fukushima magic to stay safe. If you think happy thoughts, the virus will not infect you.
no new info on this
WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH THE OTHER PASSENGERS THAT WERE ON THE SHIP!!!!!!!!
are they on planes inbound to the USA? Have some already landed?
have they lost track of them?
Who knows what if anything is being done with the other passengers.....I doubt malaysia has the means to tend and feed that many passengers for any length of time. And since at Port I can see a lot of people sneeking out..
She was only off the ship for one day when she suddenly had symptoms and tested positive. It's almost certain she was infected on the ship, or in the last port, Hong Kong. According to what we know from CDC, the minimum incubation period is 3 days.
Only 20 out of some 1500 passengers were tested for COVID-19, so who knows how many more cases there are. The 1500 passengers have disembarked, and are now in various stages of finding their way back home.
I'm sure the Prime Minister of Cambodia is a little nervous, as he was hugging passengers as they disembarked yesterday.
FYI.....Cambodia docked ship (this is the one that sailed, for days, trying to find port to allow them to anchor) has let many passengers off, including many Americans.
One of whom, an American woman, has since tested positive for the corona virus and is being treated at a Kuala Lumpur hospital.

Great Corona virus finishing what Pol Pot started
Which demonstrates exactly why you dont do that. You quarantine the ship until the disease runs its course or a cure can be administered. You dont let people off the ship and out of quarantine!
