Essex was an avowed black racist that wanted to kill as many whites as he could. I mention this incident every time the apologists mention that only whites are serial killers. Essex used a Mini 14 effectively.

RIP Colonel Pittman. You were a man among men.

When all was said and done, Essex was found with over 200 rounds in his body.

Why did they shoot Essex? His gun was doing the shooting...

The job got done without the police department being militarized, in spite of the incompetent state governor.

The way situations like this are supposed to work is that the state Governor who is an elected official is supposed to authorize the national guard to use their equipment to aid law enforcement.

If anything goes awry or indeed, if the citizenry disapproves the only response needed to punish the person who authorized the response is to vote for someone else in the next election.

That is why the founding fathers set it up that way and they knew damned well what they were doing.

The National Guard was at work at their civilian jobs.

It would take hours to get everyone needed to launch a mission.

Reporter: Why did the officers shoot that poor man 200 times?

Police Chief: Because that’s all the bullets they had...

The gentleman had big brass ones, and needed a deuce-and-a-half to carry them. I’m not a Marine, and never was, but I can recognize one. Do what needs done, regardless of the consequences. God, I hope we have heroes like this still serving. And that last sentence is a prayer.
