I too was thinking this was the least contentious presser he’s ever had, but even still some just can’t help but try to provoke him.

Are you suggesting that you’re 1) that stupid 2)that oblivious 3)want the government to string tape across your front door and post a notice on it saying that you are in quarantine, before you’ll do the correct thing 4) all of those things?

I care for my elderly father, and just wouldn’t want to bring something home that will surely kill him. I would wear a mask, wash my hands diligently and do what I could outside of the home. Without a good supply of respirators to switch out, my plan does not work out.

My gosh—I'm screaming here. "Why Pence, why Pence???" POTUS can appoint whoever he pleases, thank you.

"Many of us have lived through times when there were other health problems, for which there were no vaccines and no cures."

We survived eight years of the zombie apocalypse, we'll get through this!

I don’t think I’ve seen the press behave so well with him before. Tough questions are fair, but they must have known their usual snark wouldn’t go over well given the situation.

I am surprised they didn’t press him on how he could say there were so few cases with so little testing—and ask about the issue with the getting tests out more broadly. He seemed to be suggesting that we would just not test, but hospitals would be building more quarantine areas.

It was also a relief not to see Rod’s sister up there.

Were you born/old enough in 1957 to know how badly the Asian Flu hit this nation?

If so, then you would know that there were NO hysterics nor massive quarantines back then and yes, people died from that epidemic! There were NO flu shots back then and NO meds for it either.

Because unlike the coward Odumbo, we don't outsource the problems that are our responsibility to handle.

On the whole, I’d say he killed this presser. I actually feel a little more confident about this situation, and I’m a tough sell.

One of the press brought up Ebola.

Trump was spot on. Ebola was a death sentence...

And Obama BROUGHT CASES HERE!!!!

As a doc, I at the time was in shock. Our president just introduced into our population the most deadly virus known to man at this time to our shores. And the press stayed quite.

I lived in China for 16 years. They live in population densities that the US just cannot imagine. The last place I liked had 27,000 per sq. mile. Nothing close to that in the USA.

Chinese look for a crowd to gather with; most Americans are happy to be left alone and don’t look for crowds (many seek to avoid crowds).

I think the drastic quarantine in China is needed to halt a cultural predisposition to be together. At least a majority of Americans can handle a measure of isolation. But major urban areas in the US could see a greater spread of this.

I don’t think we Americans will respond at all to the idea of forced quarantines. I do think we will see schools and businesses closed. Work and school from home will be possible at least until the summer does it’s magic on this.

BTW, I lived there when SARS hit in 2003. This is obviously well past that level, but it eventually waned. I’m hopeful this will be the same.

Pres. Trump done. Presser over.

On the way out, he was asked if he’d do more press conferences. He said he would!

I think one big difference between then and now is the internet and social media.

It shouldn’t panic ANYONE; however, this is hardly different from the SARS thing, the Asian Flu, etc. and should be seen that way.

I don't know why you're getting upset with me. The President had the PERFECT opportunity to say "there will be no mass quarantines". He didn't. He explicitly said that it is a possibility that this will happen but he doesn't think it will get that bad. Other countries that have this virus HAVE DONE MASS QUARANTINES to stop it. What are you quibbling about?
