Then you haven’t read the entire thread; sadly.

“Filling your life with fear is not going to help.”

I’m not filling my life with fear, I’m buying extra soup and toilet paper.

Do they have any idea how many got the disease and recovered without treatment, or those who got it and never had symptoms?

I don’t think they have those numbers, but they probably ear significant and would lower the Case Fatality Rate.

On the whole, I’d say he killed this presser. I actually feel a little more confident about this situation, and I’m a tough sell.

For decades now I've been a "government cannot do anything right" guy (you more than anyone else here on FR know that about me ...) and after this presser I actually have some confidence that no matter what happens it'll get dealt with.

I felt very good about the presser. It was *exactly* what the American people needed to see.

I'm sure I'll get pilloried by some for saying it, I'll say it anyway: I want *this* President Trump every day right up to Election Day.

After election day, unleash hell on the Democrat bastards.

. After getting to this point of this thread, I'm just going to self-flagellate until I my eyes water, and hit the sack.

It happens to us all!

I just didn’t want anyone to think President Trump would give any credence to that fear monger sister.

Hoboken NJ is 2 square miles with a population of about 56000 people.

That’s close quarters. This virus could be problematic there with that level of pop density.

What are they using for the denominator?

I’m not being critical, and 2.8% may turn out to be about right, but, ANY denominator, at this stage of an evolving disease spread has substantial problems in either its determination, use, or both.

Deaths divided by confirmed cases suffers from time lag to resolve cases (die), but also suffers from likely not including a great many mild or asymptomatic cases.

Deaths divided by “all resolved cases” also almost certainly misses a great many mild or asymptomatic cases.

Then we have apparent reinfections - not surprising since this virus in some ways behaves like cold viruses

Pres. Trump went about as far as he really could, I think, in suggesting the Chinese numbers might not be accurate. (What’s he supposed to do, very publicly accuse the Chinese of being liars and then expect any cooperation?)

And so on.

Nothing above really reflects the risk to the overall population.

Perhaps our top experienced epidemiologists could hash it out and hazard a “group guess” as to a final number under 2 or 3 different scenarios. But I don’t think anyone has even publicly asked for such a discussion / determination.

Beyond that, all we REALLY know is that we have a very infectious (but not “crazy” infectious) disease on our hands, the Chinese have the most experience with it & went bananas with their reaction, and in it’s initial phase COVID19 has still killed quite a few people for being this early on in the game. Plus, it may be a toughie to develop a vaccine for COVID19 without causing other problems. A vaccine that stops COVID19 nicely isn’t much good if it causes severe problems with cold sufferers. Etc.

I can’t agree as I think Trump was in a different form we don’t often see...which was n a serious matter and to calm the hype that’s been out there, assure the people those who know the facts have been on top of this with him, and this with a positive hope that this too shall pass... but we are prepared for the least and the worst.

Further he was reading and trying to say what needed to be said initially, but once he was just being Trump he was fine. Further he wasn’t going to attempt to speak for those who would soon be speaking...I thought he ‘balanced’ this very well...

He was very clear about travel bans....if and when they thought necessary they are prepared to do so. China lost control entirely...other countries are equipped to handle it on their end. There are various things which are considered before you just ban countries.

China population is also HUGE people are crammed into work spaces, there are THOUSANDS on the streets, their food storage and hygiene is 3rd world AND above all else their medical care is just as it would be in a communist country!! So the absolute hysteria in this country IS hurting our economy AND hurting Trump overall !!! The Dems are thrilled with this AND many of the people on this site are adding to the hysteria instead of just being cautious and NOT posting every damn thing found on the internet!!!!

Exactly.....what’s important is those we know in the US who have this or could are being taken care of. We’re doing great in that respect....and also that we’re aware to prepare as we can for whatever might or not come. I’m more concerned about the flu honestly for we know it’s throughout the states.

well there is a great difference between other nations and ours in how we manage health issues. Heck we have vast pharmacies alone full of various drugs that if taken prevent or ease the earliest symptoms of heath issues! Plus hospitals and medical institutes. We have little to really complain about.

As for the Dems....well I pretty much don't pay much attention to what they say about anything these days, they're so screwed up in their thinking. Trump and the administration are handling and doing what is necessary and I leave it to them since we never have the whole story on what's said or done behind the scenes......

yes, on this site there are those who get there pants in knots when they don't see things happening as they want. For some it's just a personality trait..they're miserable or fearful or in a state of alarm naturally....they need something to complain about or life isn't normal. Others are just sharing what they know and discuss it among themselves regarding the virus. But posting all this stuff from other countries over and over again isn't helpful except perhaps being aware if one is interested.

In case you didn’t see his comment, MrChips said to try paint stores. Thanks to MrChips. Even N95 masks are used for some industrial jobs. Sounds like a possibility.

Masks other than N95 won’t cut the viral loads as much, but some of the others tend to afford easier breathing for work. I’ve used the cheaper dust nuisance masks while cleaning areas inhabited by deer mice (Hantavirus).

They’ll stop fewer of the micro-droplets of moisture with viral units riding on them, but it’s all a game of odds anyway. They need to be changed often. The fit around the nose needs to be snugged-up when putting a clean one on. The edges of the mask should fit the face closely all around. The hands should touch only the bands when removing masks from the face, etc.

I couldn’t stand them for extreme exertion in steel work long ago, so I stopped trying to wear them and risked blue lung instead.

Good point. Damaged economies kill people too.
