The company said Thursday that sales at its stores open for at least one year, a key metric, increased 9.1% during its previous quarter compared with the same period last year.
Sales at Costco in February were up 12.4% from a year ago. The company attributed around 3% of that to an uptick in consumer demand from concerns over coronavirus.
Shoppers have posted pictures on social media in recent days of lines snaking around Costco stores. They have also posted pictures of shelves empty of sanitizers at Costco, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and other drug stores.
Shares of Costco, Walmart, other big-box chains and grocers have rallied this week as investors flock to stocks that are seen as benefiting from coronavirus fears.
As consumers prioritize a dwindling number of trips to stores, [Costco] will likely be at the top of the list, UBS analyst Michael Lasser said in a note to clients Wednesday. Over the long-term, we think the stock-ups will help accelerate [Costcos] share gains.

Buy Sprite or 7 Up and toss in a half dozen spoonfuls of sugar & theyre good to go.
Throw in a little propylene glycol, and you REALLY have Mt. Dew.
Go look over at Carnival stock....yesterday down to 27.87 a share (getting close to a 50-percent drop since 1 Jan).
I think the companies are getting pretty worried. I think they could drop another 50-percent...down to 15-dollar range by late summer.
My problem (I have a 7-day deal for June coming up), is that you could be out and return to port with one sick dude onboard, and they quarantine the ship for 14 days. I really don’t care to spend two weeks stuck in some cabin.

Throw in some Seagrams and you don’t care what it is!
I was in Costco yesterday and I had trouble even finding a parking spot. But once inside, I saw there was plenty of bottled water, toilet paper and paper towels. I wasn’t in the section where hand sanitizer might be sold, so I don’t know if it was still in stock.
No kidding
I bought the 1.75 liter of Bulleit Rye instead of the 750 ml
I used to absolutely hate the stuff, but right at the end of my soft drink run, I started to develop a taste for it after drinking a few cans at my friend’s house.
It’s unusual and different, and TBH, I think it’s better than Coke. I never tried Diet Dr.
Diet Dr. is good, too, not as good as regular, but not watered-down, weak tasting.
LOL!
I date this girl way back in the late 70s that would go though Dr Pepper like crazy she was crazy hot thanks for stirring some memories
Hah! You’re welcome. Funny the memories associated with various foods.
Had a cat who, if she didn’t like the food I put down for her, would try paw aound the bowl and cover it up like she was in her litter box. So I guessed she wasn’t fond of it, heh.
Is the price of gas going down.
I’m hunkered down at home
My Costco in Sugar Land, TX is usually full of Asian people. I would say they are easily the dominant group there. I wonder how many have been to Wuhan? People seem to fly in and out of Wuhan all the time these days.
Won’t ever sign up for Costco membership.
They track every purchase.
When the shtf the almighty govt can go find and get the masks. They will just take the Costco records/database and know who and where all the items the govt wants, is.

Im hunkered down at home”
I’ll make you a deal. I’ll go out and get you the price of gas and you stay right where you are.
My son has cut me and the wife off from seeing the grandkids. They are hunkered down and complain that we have ‘exposed’ ourselves by going out.
Tell the kids that no one under 65 in the USA has died. Those who get the virus under 65, get through it with no problem. Tell them they should be concerned about you! The children will be ok, the older folks are having the problem
I’m thinking of going to WM to get some yarn. That’s a must :)
TP doesn’t have an expiration date. Costco will be crying in a couple of quarters from lack of sales.
No need to fight the crowds at big box stores. Shop your local grocers for tp and other preps.
It will when you’re in need of 4 squares and you’re without.
You aren’t planning on eating, pooping and blowing your nose during the weeks of your illness. Well, ok. Have fun.
