Scientists Believe They’ve Made a Huge Breakthrough in Coronavirus Vaccine Effort
New York Post ^ | March 13, 2020 | Laura Italiano

A team of Canadian scientists has successfully isolated and grown copies of the coronavirus — bringing the world a step closer to finding a vaccine to fight the deadly illness.

Researchers from the Sunnybrook Research Institute, the University of Toronto, and McMaster University were able to isolate and replicate the virus in a lab using samples taken from two Canadian patients.

The lab-grown copies will now be able to help scientists study the pathogen to develop better diagnostic testing, treatments, vaccines, and gain a better understanding of its biology, the team said in a statement.

Unfortunately once they finish it, it is 12-18 months for human trials. (With an “emergency declaration” I heard it is still 6 months for trials).

Yup - the check is in the mail. Until it’s approved, it’s basically a funding request dressed up as news.

Now we have to decide if we want the vaccine or want to engage the wonders of our body to overcome the matter.

This is not like polio or MS....it is a hit on our body which triggers responses within our body.

This is not a cure.

This is the ability to grow coronavirus in a petri dish.

The whole thing is a distraction from the fact our overlords don’t have a viable candidate.

They will do ANYTHING to increase misery and uncertainty...

It’s the same old playbook.

Successful replication (sequence was already known) in vitro means they can do in vitro testing, not only with vaccines but antiviral drugs. There's a good chance that an antiviral agent already FDA-approved may be effective for persons who have already been infected. Should also speed vaccine testing.

Anti-viral medications are probably the best hope for the near future. A lot of those are already known to be safe(or at least we know what their side effects are.) I can’t remember where i saw it, but giving infected people plasma from people who have recovered is also being considered or maybe even already being tried.

Vaccines engage the wonder of our bodies to overcome the virus. That’s what vaccines do.

Not for me. I remember terrible effects from Swine Flu under President Ford. Don’t trust this at all.

I think you are correct.

Remdesivir is in late stage trials and expected to report the results in April. Supposedly they are ramping up production in anticipation of the results. It’s already being used for compassionate use at the University of Nebraska. If it has decent efficacy it could be very useful in treating moderate to severe cases. I think I read it was being considered for a prophylactic treatment in people who may have been exposed a case.

Moderna already has a vaccine and was shipped to NIH and Kaiser Permanente. They are beginning stage I human trials in Washington State.

Israel says they have one almost good to go as do several pharmas. What was keeping the test kits from use in the USA was the FDA which was insisting all the bureaucratic Ts had to be crossed and Is dotted which necessarily takes years and has little or nothing to do with the efficacy and quality of the product. Trump just cleared that crap away. We will have test kits going where needed very soon.

Slit your wrists. Swallow a bottle of aspirin. Save yourself before Corona ravages your body.

The pessimistic hand wringers here bring everyone down.
