Vegas is not shutting down to hurt Trump

Come on..be reasonable.

The cost of shutting down Vegas is HUGE

Did they even shut down for two weeks after 9/11?

Here is Vegas in 2001

https://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/question/9-11-2001-in-vegas/

They did not close their doors

Want to make a rough guess at the real cost of shutting down Vegas for two weeks? I am sure we will see plenty of articles about it.

This is not done lightly.

Seriously though, I think it’s truly is selfish to ask hospital and grocery store personnel to put their lives at risk for us!

Why is okay for us to get medical care, shop, hord food and supplies, while these people are put at great risk and peril to serve us? This borders on evil!

No, close everything down permanently! If we’re as worried about this virus as we say, and if it’s as deadly as we say, why would we want others exposed to it and die!

What a bunch of selfish bastards!

“Something has got to be really really bad that we dont know about”

This is an example of illogic.

It’s not because it’s bad, it is precautionary and meant to prevent it becoming bad - however subjectively defined bad may be.

In 2009 about 60 million Anericans got H1N1 flu. 265,000 were hospitalized and at least 12,000 died (some analyses say up to 60,000).

And no one saw it as a particularly “bad” time. It just happened. The U.S. enacted a National State of Emergency, as was done Friday. It ran its course with CDC measure put in place. No one remembers it as any sort of world shaking event.

There are, in comparison, ~3600 cases, 63 deaths so far.

Why was 2009 not filled with hysteria and panic buying?

“If they don’t pay them, many might return to Mexico”

That’s why they’ll pay em.

I can see part of the reason for shutting down Vegas is if Trump halts all flights....might be coming..

However, Vegas still could operate on a smaller scale for people who drive in.

Well, everybody says this virus is a deadly pandemic! Why should people in Vegas, and other industries be put at risk for us? No, the more I think about this, the more I believe everything should be shut down! Why should hospital workers be put at risk over this deadly virus?

If we’re serious about not getting sick, everything needs to be closed immediately!

Over nothing. That’s the shame of it.

and some here can proudly say they took part in bringing down the economy.

oh wait I have to get back to burying the piles of corpses in the street in front of me.

See that’s what we be doing if this thing was deadly as heck.

I bet many many thousands had it and got better. What a shame this whole mess is

“however subjectively defined bad may be.”

This is my point. Whatever their definition..its very bad.
Based on what?
I dont know
US intelligence should know by now if this is an escaped bioweapon, an intentional bioweapon, or something that is a freak of nature.

I truly believe they think it will be bad and they are trying to load manage it so as not to overwhelm the system.

Tell me the last time Vegas shut down for two weeks...crickets...surely there is a time but I am not a historian of Vegas

The media may be overly dramatic. It's what they do. But that isn't the cause of what's going on in the world. There's a real thing happening, and the concrete actions taken by governments and businesses all over the world aren't happening because some people on TV are excited. It's a real thing.

"Believe whatever you will I have lived through a hell of a lot of these situations and this BS has never happened before!!!"

No, you haven't. Because if you had the rest of us would have too.

Wait a minute! You believe this virus is a killer...right? Okay, why should workers in Vegas be put at risk? Why should hospital workers be put at risk? Why should grocery store personnel be put at risk? If we’re to believe that this is some new great pandemic, shouldn’t all people be able to stay home so as not catch this virus? If it’s okay for us to look after numero uno, it should also be just fine if all others put themselves first!

I’m not sure if some have really thought this through.

“However, Vegas still could operate on a smaller scale for people who drive in.”

Maybe, but it would be tough. No shows, people spaced apart in the casinos, and how do they get fed, when everything is takeout only - bringing food to their rooms?

Probably just not workable...or not worth the trouble to try.

In thinking about that a bit more - perhaps that’s how they restart operations, as people (and authorities) are not about to simply make a proclamation and overnight declare the world free of Coronavirus.

Instead, it will be a very slow recovery, probably with setbacks (localized breakouts) that sends everyone back home for a weeks at a time. And I think we’re talking many months before we’re reasonably ‘normal’ and at least several years before it is no longer affecting us at all (back to our old traveling and congregating without fear of getting sick).

There was no Republican in the White House and Fake News/social media was not hysterically spreading fear.

I believe the National Guard does have Hazmat suits. They could take over operation of grocery stores.

the casinos were open after 911...so it is that type of operation...you are paying your workers anyway if Caesars is going to be the example.

Although you could be shut down and have them come in and clean to earn their pay...unless a Union thing
