Donald Trump And The Wollman Rinking of American Politics(Flashback !!)
Forbes ^ | 08/24/2015 | By Irwin Kula and Craig Hatkoff

---SNIP--- The Wollman Rink fiasco amplified the public perception of the general incompetence of government and their inability to complete even the simplest projects. Enter the Donald. In late May of 1986, the 39-year-old Trump made an offer to Mayor Ed Koch. Trump would step in and take over the construction and operation of the project for no profit and have it up and running in time for the holiday season. Koch tried mightily and quite sneakily tried to reject Trump’s offer.

*** Case study in corrupt progressive eunuchs ***
This is why Trump is president and Cuomo and De Blasio have to beg the feds to bail their chestnuts out of the fire.

A great read - nice to read in print about the positives given to us by President Trump. Thanks for bringing it to us.

I agree. A great read. Hits on EXACTLY why the political establishment, the media, and those whose celebrity and stature in life is based upon their connection to government, hate Trump. He's pointed out to all that the would be 'emperors' truly have no clothes.

It's way, way, way past time that we do away with career politicians, that we implement strict term limits, and that we start selecting public office holders from the ranks of 'the people', not from a cadre of politically motivated attorneys, or from the ranks of those who have never held a real private sector job, or from the ranks of celebrities of any stripe, or from the ranks of those whose only credibility comes from the university they attended. That formula has led to corruption, deceit, arrogance, and incompetence in government - and worse, to the weakening of our nation.

My favorite lines.

* Trump finished the job in just four months at a final cost 25% below the budget.
* It wasn’t rocket science according to Trump. It was common sense and “management.
* Trump has dominated the nation's entire political agenda and its airwaves, created a new language of bluntness, upended political correctness
* City officials stopped attending press conferences because it was actually becoming an embarrassment.

This is a great story and was detailed in President trump’s book “The Art of The Deal”, which I read some time ago.

Newt says the same thing in his book, Understanding Trump ...under budget and before deadline.. and he adds Trump is considered genius level.

Glad you posted this. Saw this during the first campaign. Great story about POTUS. In fact, that whole intro clip from the first convention should be resurrected as well

Good read.
Thanks for the ping.
Cuomo had already messed up NY hospital system. Now he wants Trump to fix it for him. He’s already making plans to mess it up again saying private hospitals will need to permanently take up the slack caused by inefficient public hospitals. Liberals never learn.

I was in NY at that time. And it made an indelible mark on me. That skating rink is the jewel of Central Park. If you are not from NY, it is hard to understand what Trump did for Manhattan. He took a dying city and turned it into a luxury brand. He doesn’t get near enough credit for that.

Instead of failing, Trump finished the job in just four months at a final cost 25% below the budget.

The ability of a successful international businessman.

Certainly a shame some in this nation are so undeserving of him and his ‘common sense’.

Thanks for the ping!

This 2015 Forbes journalism piece, "The Wollman Ranking of American Politics" is immortal — one for the ages.  And so is the man the story is about.

Politics is the business of delivering value to the public -- increasing the commonwealth. It matters not whether that value is delivered by a government, private enterprise, non-profit, or individual person.

In fact, history proves that vastly more commonwealth has been produced outside of government than inside it.

There are three Laws of being a successful politician:

  • Law 1 — Get something done that the public truly values, preferably something that others have given up on or deem impossible.

  • Law 2 — Let the public know you delivered on Law 1.

  • Law 3 — Rinse and repeat in sequence: Law 1 then Law 2.  And you will go very far in politics.

Final thought.  President Donald Trump has authored numerous best selling books teaching the art of competence and entrepreneurship.  But the most enduring lessons he teaches are not the words in his books, but in applying the techniques and dedication shown in his life's accomplishments to your own work.

How in the world did the city screw that up? Some concrete, refrigeration pipes and a three foot wall! Okay, I know it was more complex than that - but its not like they were trying to build a bridge or a building.
