John Prine, the raspy-voiced country-folk singer whose ingenious lyrics to songs by turns poignant, angry and comic made him a favorite of Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson and others, died Tuesday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. He was 73. The cause was complications from Covid-19, his family said. Mr. Prine underwent cancer surgery in 1998 to remove a tumor in his neck identified as squamous cell cancer, which had damaged his vocal cords. In 2013, he had part of one lung removed to treat lung cancer.

RIP. One of the greats. Love his music and lyrics.
RIP, one of the greats
I am sad to hear this; equally sad I never saw him perform.

Hello Up There...
Sad, another COVID-19 victim forced to leave us before his time.
I had never heard of him before he became ill. I’m 62 and just getting into some country music. I really started to like Waylon Jennings and then found out he was deceased so you know I’m ignorant when it comes to country music. The past few months I started listening to Outlaw Country on SiriusXM radio. I will have to keep an ear out for his music.
This disease sure does get around.
I gave myself a nasty paper cut earlier...Damned Corona-19,,,
RIP John, your songs meant more to me than you’ll know.
Was lucky enough to see you play twice.
When I get to heaven, John Prine.
Great live performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKPDFQRmG_M
And irreverent song about his own death
Bob Dylan on John Prine: “Prines stuff is pure Proustian existentialism. Midwestern mindtrips to the nth degree.”
Sorry I only got to see him once, and he was an opening act so it was a short set. Another great one lost.
I have about 15,000 songs on Amazon prime. Over 75 are his.
RIP Mr. Prine.
My husband and I sing this to each other a couple times a year. I am really goshdarn disappointed the man is gone.
Rest in peace, brother. You're a good 'un.
A better version.
