Delivery by dog: A new way to get wine and groceries in the age of social distancing
Washington Post (democracy dies with democrats) ^ | 4/07/20 | Antonia Noori Farzan

The 11-year-old brindle boxer trotted out of the winery, bottles tucked into each pocket of his harness-like vest. Outside in the parking lot, a white Hyundai SUV was waiting. Its driver crouched down on the pavement, coaxing the dog to come closer. When the furry delivery boy reached the passenger-side door, the customer bent over and collected her purchase from his pack.

While plenty of businesses are turning to curbside pickup or contactless delivery, Stone House Urban Winery may be the first to enlist a dog to help with social distancing. In mid-March, as fears about the novel coronavirus intensified, the Hagerstown, Md., winery invited its customers to place orders by phone. Soda Pup (Soda for short) would handle the deliveries.

“Before this all happened, we had so many customers who came to see Soda. They’d grab a glass of wine, sit on the floor with him, some would take him outside. They love Soda Pup,” co-owner Lori Yata told the Herald-Mail. “Being a small business, we are trying to keep ourselves afloat. So we decided to use a little bit of enticement to get people in.”

It’s alcohol, they wouldn’t go in the first place. But now they have a “reason” to go protest.

Delivery by dog: A new way to get wine and groceries in the age of social distancing>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Should be:

“Delivery by dog: A new way to get wine, groceries and COVID-19 in the age of social distancing”

Dogs and cats may shed the virus if infected.

NO

Please do not add to the already idiotic hysteria that is making people dump their dogs or have them killed.

My take is the dog is infection vector if customers pet the dog or the saddle and don’t wash their hands..

Then they should wash their hands.

How hard is that?

People just don’t need to be spreading crap that dogs get/spread the virus.

“Dogs and cats may shed the virus if infected.”

Have not seen any study revealing that to be the case. Listened to a few virologists a couple days ago and they said that dogs don’t seem to be affected at all and cats can only pass it to other cats.

It isn’t that the dogs have the virus inside them and are carriers - people that have the virus get it ON the dog (breathing on them, talking to them “Oh aren’t you adorable...” or petting them, and then you are touching and hugging or have the dog in your lap or bed later on.

I just warned my daughter about that (probably too late). They have a lovable pit bull puppy that everyone has to be friends with. And then of course he is all over my daughter later on.

The person specifically said

““Delivery by dog: A new way to get wine, groceries and COVID-19 in the age of social distancing”

Dogs and cats may shed the virus if infected.”

You have no idea what vets and shelters are going through, right now.

People are bringing their perfectly healthy, terrified and confused dogs to be put down or they’re dumping them at shelters.

It is gutting.

All because of stupid rumors like this.

Pet the dog.
Wash your hands.

They tried delivering a rib roast this way but the dog ate it before getting half-way to the car.

Of course that is stupid to ship your dog off to the vet to be put down. I’m just saying that ANYTHING that has contact with other people MIGHT have the virus on them.

I pet our dog and wash my hands. But that doesn’t help much when we are wrestling on the floor or he’s sleeping on the bed with us. So we just make sure when other people are around on our walks we put him on a leash.

If nobody is around he gets to run free. We always wipe down his feet anyway - but I’m guessing not well enough to get rid of any CV critters that might be on his paws. Maybe all the crap in the mud puddles he likes to play in kills the CV!?

BTW - how is your hubby doing? Hopefully none of this has hit close to home for you all.
