"There's never been anything like this," Boerboom said. If idled pork plants don't open soon, "we are going to see multigenerational, longstanding [hog] farms not get through this financially."

This is the Democrat's and the media's plan for all business. Pass a law allowing them to slaughter them and sell the meat real cheap to first come, first served for a week. The President could probably get something like that done.

democrat socialists get a tertiary agenda goal

reducing meat comsumption, and hey if it means killing the animals for no good reason, well its the ends justify the means.

Deomcrat socialists: we will kill all of our entire supporters to make them safer and accomplish our goals

Abolish the FDA and they can sell them where they want and manufacturers can provide the needed PPE.

I wonder if the Chinese have anything to do with the spread of the Wuhan virus at our processing plants?

Think of it as a conveyor line, and the pigs at the very front of the conveyor are blocked from being removed (slaughtered) and there are still sows in the farrowing rooms giving births. The conveyor can’t be stopped, so something has to give.

Sad solution to the problem is going to be hundreds of thousand of pigs killed, and probably just buried.

BTW I raised 250,000 pigs before I sold my farm.

Some of the States still open could manage them. Surely, not ALL pork processors are owned by China.

They should turn them loose. Every pig farm that has animals with no market just let them go. Pigs will find a way!

20,000 hogs processed every day at just one plant. It’s offal that it is going to stop slaughtering hogs.

People living in fear and idiocy are killing this nation. “Cases” of covid doesn’t mean a damn thing.

Just curious...how hard is it to convert processing plants from producing perishable product to non-perishable canned goods with no need for refrigeration and long shelf life?

It’s very hard to make money on hogs. In 1935 hogs were $0.50/lb and tractors were $500. Today hogs are $0.50/lb and tractors are $50,000.

Looks like the Chomks (Chinese Communists) are being allowed to corner the hog market.

Time for a whole bunch of backyard Hawaiian style barbecues! We did this for our wedding- had a party the night before, and buried the pig with hot coals- dug it up for the reception, and had another party. The pig was delicious, and the whole thing was a blast!

Meanwhile I have a rain check for a cheap ham that can’t be redeemed because the store has none in stock nor any prospect of stocks.
