Coronavirus in Ohio: Gov. Mike DeWine unveils first phase to reopen state's economy

COLUMBUS - Many Ohioans will return to work next month, but work will look different with mandatory facial coverings or masks and lots of space between employees.

Gov. Mike DeWine announced a three-phase plan to reopen some businesses that have been closed because of concerns about spreading the novel coronavirus.

That plan includes restarting delayed medical procedures, a return to office work, reopening manufacturing plants and eventually allowing retail shops to reopen.

Some businesses, such as daycares, hair salons, gyms and dine-in restaurants, won’t reopen just yet.

DeWine is trying to balance two, often competing, forces: The desire to keep Ohioans safe from the virus and the need to return Ohioans to work after state officials imposed financially crippling restrictions.

Starting on Friday, hospital, medical, dental and veterinary procedures that do not require an overnight stay in a hospital can move forward, DeWine said. Non-essential medical procedures and surgeries were halted last month to preserve masks and other personal protective equipment.

Good thing we live close to the border. Ohio is not being as stupid as Witchmer in Michigan. Maybe we will move there sooner rather than later.

In the past five days, Ohio has reported an average of 442 new cases a day, an average increase of 3% each day.

That’s a lie.

4/23 - 527
4/24 - 475
4/25 - 418
4/26 - 376
4/27 - 362

Unless I’m reading Ohio’s website wrong.

It’s Lyin’ DeWine - Rino who was good buddies with John Boehner. Of all the people to have in charge during a historical crisis - nit-wit DeWine.

“Dr. Acton explains why Ohio could diagnose 10,000 cases of coronavirus per day at peak” (March 28th, 2020)

I laughed when I heard it. The good doctor of course was wrong, but will never be called out on it. There are 16,000 TOTAL cases (not deaths) in Ohio.

Acton works side by side with King DeWine.

I hear that. See post 3. She’s only about 90% off. The only real “spike” we saw was when just about the entire Marion Correctional tested positive.

Of all the people to have in charge during a historical crisis - nit-wit DeWine.

I'll see your DeWine and raise you a Witchmer with a side of Gruesome. As dopey as he may be, at least he appears to be listening to more than the doctors. You know, the dipsticks who live in an antiseptic bubble and won't declare the Kung Flu panic to be over until no new cases are found for at least 4 weeks.

DeWine is an idiot, but I am glad we don’t still have Kasich.

That guy has a totalitarian Demon living inside his soul.

The most common response to whether Ohio should open everything from daycares and playgrounds to retail stores and hair salons was "not yet."

My response?

They never should have been closed to begin with.

What gave the state the power to do this?

I have never been there but I miss it too.

I plan to retire in two years and would love to move to a low tax state like Tennessee, Florida or Texas.

However my wife will have none of it. Her family is here and she will not leave.

Probably for the best.

TX has reached max capacity, I hear.
