I tried to search FreeRepublic for any article title that included the words "Marcy," or "Marcy Park" and I came up empty.
No articles matches the search.
This, to me, seemed unbelievable.
I tried "Fort Marcy" and "Ft. Marcy." No articles matches the search.
I tried "Fort Marcy Park" and "Ft. Marcy Park." No articles matches the search.
Can this be true?
Or is it just me?
I did the search and you are not mistaken.
You are heading for a deep hole that will change how you view the world. Everybody goes around thinking everyone they see posting on the internet is just like them, and what they see is a big amalgam of free, honest, independent thinkers freely discussing topics in search of truth.
After you see first hand the machine that is out there, you will begin to assume at least 70-80 percent of the people posting are actually either bots, or one or two “agents” running machines with software to allow them to post under twenty or thirty avatars each, to dilute real truth, misdirect, keep like-minded people apart, or otherwise control the presentation of information and alter how the vast majority of people (who are just lurkers) see things.
I have little doubt the machine would hack Free Republic, and alter how specific terms pop in search, especially that one. Clearly the flood of idle banter and meaningless posts is an attempt to make the thread less interesting than it obviously should be (not so much because Marcy is interesting, but rather you have found a spot where what happens all over online is obvious here).
If you start having trouble in real life (and now you might), look up my site and drop a comment on one of the pages, with an admonition at the beginning of it to to not post it publicly. I’ll get back to you because it is interesting and rewarding to find and help more of our kind. We are more rare than you think right now.
You’ll know if you need to.
And you won’t be alone on FR.
25 years ago today, Vince Foster found dead in Fort Mercy Park
ROTFLOL
Thanks! I almost coughed up a lung.
Screw ‘em. Electrons are recyclable.
The name of the song is "Sex and Candy"
Here’s what comes up in keywords marcypark
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/marcypark/index?tab=articles
Now, remember, if the poster or someone else on the thread doesn’t enter a subject in keywords, it can’t be found that way. I’ve tried to remind people for years when they post a thread & end up posting keywords myself on someone else’s thread, because I use the search frequently when looking for past articles. People think that the mods do it. It’s really customary for the poster of the thread to do it, but over the years people have gotten lazy.
I think some information may have gotten lost due to upgrades & changes on FR over the years, too.
Google search, as others have suggested may be the best way now.
My next assignment just happened to be a few miles south of Da Nang.
I did remove the asterisk. But thank you.
Actually, I went to Bing and put Vince Foster into a search. It gave me Fort Marcy Park and I just sent the wiki link. Seems the original question was about March Park in DC.
Thank you for your search.
The question, though, was about FreeRepublic’s search engine, not Bing.
