The full reopening of the film and TV industry probably won’t be possible until a vaccine is developed to combat the coronavirus and testing and tracing of the virus’ spread are in place, according to David White, national executive director of SAG-AFTRA. White shared that view during a media conference call today with the top leaders of the industry’s unions and guilds, including representatives of the DGA, IATSE, Actors’ Equity and the WGA East.
“As a general matter, it’s worth noting that a vaccine is right now maybe not a consensus but overwhelmingly viewed as the time when everything can go back to normal,” White said. “And broad and reliable testing and tracing is the rule-of-thumb standard as to when we will have some organized, sustained production returning to stages. If you don’t know who is a super-carrier, and they’re on a set with folks, even with social distancing, you’ve got a problem. So you’ve got to be able to test and the vaccine is viewed as the time when it can come back.
“I’m not an expert and there’s broad thinking around that,” he continued, “but as a rule of thumb, we’re looking for things to be firmly in place before we’re going to put people in an environment that can actually directly and negatively affect their health.”
Asked by Deadline about the work of the Industry-Wide Labor Management Safety Committee, which will play a key role in establishing protocols for a resumption of production, White said, “All the unions are working together on an easy-to-understand format to give an indication as to whether or not we’ve agreed that a set is safe vs. unsafe, so we’re all working together to come up with that protocol, which will tie into what the industry is doing.”

Well, they apparently aren’t smart enough to figure out that movies & TV shows are being made in other countries, indie studios, places like Georgia and Texas,and even on computers with CGI actors and completely synthesized voices and music.
The airline & hotel industries got murdered by this virus. If Hollywood dies (we won’t be that lucky, folks), it will be from suicide. Any entertainment production outfits better have their s-—t together pronto with new material or they are history. Re-runs aren’t gonna make it too much longer.
I suspect a lot of non-union production outfits and non-SAG member talent are gonna start cranking out something besides fresh porn in another few weeks.
They have been relocating production for years due to unions, regulations, and other high costs in California. Georgia has become especially attractive to production companies with their tax incentives and dedicated Film Commission.
It seems like every third recent movie I watch is shot in Georgia. Then you have Canada and other off-shore nations providing incentives. I watch the ending credits and just saw a movie (forget) that all the production staff had foreign surnames.
Many countries have been building state of art studios for years. England being first and many others after. Hollywood brought this on themselves. Sorry for the low-level production folks, but they also get hired for Georgia productions. Watch the credits. The very end say where the film was shot.

Only a very few mentally challenged people actually care what Hollywood says or does. Unfortunately that includes most of the Media.
If the upcoming openings backfire, producing many deaths, I wouldn’t be surprised if other businesses/industries adopt similar plans.
This virus may have many silver-linings.
It may very well bankrupt systems that have become highly rigid, ideological, corrupt and resistant to change.
This will include one-party states with entrenched bloated bureaucracies like Illinois and New York, or it may include things like “Hollywood.” (Throw California, Oregone and Washington into this worthless blue state POS collection.)
Think of it as “Cloward Piven,” but for conservatives.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the bribes state and local governments have been offering Hollyweird to film in their states and cities. Money may be drying up, so Hollyweird may be waiting to see if the gravy train will start flowing again. But they can’t very well say that out loud, wouldn’t go over well, so they’re playing the WuFlu card.
