As far as I know nothing speeds up a windows computer more than going from HDD to SSD.

WRONG!! Nothing speeds up a Windoze (zzzzzz...) PC like an SSD and switching to Linux. Been there, done that, happy as all heck with Ubuntu 20.04 on my 11 year old AMD FX-8350 which runs like a scalded cat on Linux.

Installed in minutes, can do everything I could do on Windows. No license fees, no paying that pandemic panderer Bill Gates for his faulty vaccines and ID chips either.

I have too much of DOS based software I developed myself to forecast stock prices and manage my portfolio. WHich runs fine on Windows and now my laptop is running faster than my brain, so I do not want to bother changing to Linux or such.

I spend all my spare time making money in the stock market.

I can relate. I've been spending time making money on the markets too.

Good luck to you!

The extreme volatility currently in the markets is trader’s dream scenario.

If you read all my posts in this thread you will understand why I do NOT NEED virus protection, ever. Have been doing business transactions on-line since Windows 95 came on the scene, and no virus has found me since. My methods allow me to run a computer so much faster with ZERO virus protection, and surf the net to my heart’s content.

My business computer has SSD and is slower because of virus protection programs, but I use it like average 10 minutes in a day to execute a stock transaction or make bank transfers etc, so speed is of no consequence.

You do realize that the “are you logged in” meme is a long running gag here at FR, right?

Is it just me, that I’m still getting updates to windows 7, defender, also they tell me I need to update to windows 10. That’s never going to happen. I’ll get Linux first.

Having a 8 Core, 4.0/4.2ghz (base/overdrive) CPU does help!

I ran Windows with extensive Internet use for years with only 2 viruses (minor) just using "pray and press" and free mvps host file. But when i went to W/10 Pro (retail upgrade path from Win. 8) then I have left the Defender on, but it does not use much CPU cycles.

For those who want to, is this how you did it:

Open Start.

Name the key DisableAntiSpyware and press Enter.

Click the OK button.

Once you have a virus, it may be too late for a scan - many will disable the antivirus app as one of the first 'orders of business".

What you did is akin to keeping a bullet proof vest in your trunk in case you ever get shot.

I have water cooling on mine, it’s OC’d up to 4.6GHz stable and has been for several years now. Mobo is an Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2. 32Gb of memory and an SSD Raid Array. She’s a screamer.

Sounds like it is. Mine is a budget build of a (under $100.00) AMD Ryzen 33200G 4.0 O.C. with 32GB RAM. Thanks be to God; may it be used for His purposes and to His glory.

You obviously have not bothered to read my other posts in this thread. I use TWO separate computers because refurbished computers are so cheap on eBay.

I use one of them for surfing all over the net, but have no business transactions or email downloads on it. If virus takes over, I just format the hard disk and start over. Does not happen very often at all. May be once in 5 years.

The other computer is strictly for business, used on average 15 minutes per day. It does have virus protection.
