The Skeptic’s Guide to the Pentagon’s UFO Videos
motherboard ^ | 05/06/2020 | Matthew Gault

Mick West... extensively documents his efforts to provide alternative explanations for the Navy UFO footage that doesn’t involve alien visitors to planet Earth. According to West, FLIR is probably a “low resolution, out of focus, backlit plane.” In the FLIR video, the video focuses on a single UAP in the distance. It appears to rotate in place before zooming to the left of the frame. According to To the Stars Academy, this movement is “unprecedented velocity.”

...[A]s the camera stops tracking the object, it also changes the zoom. This switch from a 1x zoom to a 2x zoom gives the object the appearance of “teleporting” to the left. The craft, which was always traveling to the left, continues apace but isn’t followed by the camera anymore. That gives it its apparent speed. “This is perfectly consistent with something like a distant aircraft just flying along quite normally making no sudden movements,” West said on YouTube.

He believes GIMBAL to be a plane as well, lit by the infrared flare of the engine and locked in place by a trick of the gimbal mounted camera viewing it. In a series of several videos on his YouTube channel, West walks through how a gimbal mounted camera can produce the effects seen in the Navy footage, including the rotating glare and image sharpening in IR cameras.

...GOFAST is a balloon tracked by a camera and given unnatural speed by an effect called parallax--when viewed while moving, objects at different distances appear to move at different speeds. The To the Stars Academy release of GOFAST claims the object is moving quickly and low across water. West, using the data displayed in the camera footage, calculates the speed and distance of the perceived object. According to him, it’s actually moving slowly at a high altitude.

From what I understand there were no actual visual sightings, just electronic signals(e.g. radar)?

I’ve seen interviews on TV of alleged Navy pilots who supposedly saw these things.

Artifacts of the camera system. I guess the Navy doesn’t want to admit it, so are sticking with the UFO story.

“I’ve seen interviews on TV of alleged Navy pilots who supposedly saw these things.”

I mean “eyeballed”, if they talking about the videos, they’re talking about what they saw on radar.
I’m surprised that apparently there are no photo-cameras on military aircraft anymore to get actual photos and film - or some kind of actual video that’s not a representation of something, but images of the “something” itself.

Yes. Saw with their own eyes.

IOW, he's a skepticultist. To adapt something from GB Shaw, skepticism might be a wonderful thing if anyone would ever try it.

“Yes. Saw with their own eyes.”

Since there’s no one on record making such claims, I’d just blow it off. Go on record as a supplement to the Navy videos (why not have the Navy set up the press conference, they released the radar images, after all). And put some damn cameras on your planes, fellas!

If you are actually interested in these incidents, you might want to do a search of "tic tac ufo". There are several former military personnel who have gone on record on camera.

I think these things need a good hard look. From a variety of approaches.

Even the USN might not be above hoaxing the public.

By “go on record”, I mean officially. Talking with the host of “Ancient Aliens” or George Noory doesn’t count.
As I said, it’s the Navy putting the videos out. Anyone who claims to have seen anything on this can put something together with the Navy/DOD and put all the questions to rest.
Or they could just be spinning tall tales and making a few bucks for beer money - in which case, nevermind.

there were visual confirmations that matched the radar, as well as recorded IR Video. You can listen to the pilot’s commentary during the video.

Jacque Vallee has studied this stuff for decades—and concluded that the military industrial complex has created lots of hoaxes.

Their agenda:

—Hide classified projects with disinformation
—Test social control, mind control, and psychological warfare programs
—Test loyalty of members of military with access to classified intelligence with “tidbits” that the individuals would be tempted to leak

“there were visual confirmations that matched the radar”

Because they were talking about what was on their screens. No one ever saw anything with their bare eyeballs.

Until the military can figure out how to mount cameras (maybe an oldtimer knows how they used to do it) on their aircraft things such as this will remain a mystery - though it’s most likely an electronic hiccup. No little green people with antenna-heads needed to explain this one.

“Jacque Vallee has studied this stuff for decades—and concluded that the military industrial complex has created lots of hoaxes.”

Would be easier in the modern era with pilots having been trained using video games, in effect. The younger a person the more they tend to believe whatever may come up on any given screen in front of them and become excited.

For those interested in more details, an amazing military UFO/alien civilization hoax is detailed in this book:

I see a lot of skepticism, and to be honest, when I saw the Nimitz videos some years back, I really didn't know what to make of it. I tried to remain neutral on it.

This website has a link to the official report, as well as video of an interview with the CO of VFA-41 Hornet that was in the air that day: Detailed Official Report On Harrowing Encounter Between F/A-18s and UFO Surfaces

The official account (which can be read here: Official government report derived from official operational reports)

And if my memory serves, there were the three sailors who went on camera. One of them was a Senior Chief Fire Control Technician who had 17 years of experience who described the flight behavior of the objects as having "Ballistic Missile characteristics". They weren't in a plane looking through a camera lens changing zoom or anything like that. They were on an the USS Princeton, an Aegis cruiser, specialists who were seeing this odd behavior through the cruiser's sensors AN/SPY-1 system).

The pilots were flying, independently seeing this same odd behavior with their own eyes and their own sensors.

One was the Commanding Officer of VMFA-232, a LT Colonel flying a maintenance check flight (he is the one who saw the disturbance in the water) and the other planes two were vectored over by an E-2, which handed them off to direct control by the USS Princeton.

One of the other planes was a Hornet piloted by the Commanding Officer of VFA-41 who was flying a training mission with a junior officer in the accompanying plane.

Military pilots are not known for engaging in shenanigans like this. This wasn't just one F-18, there were three F-18's up there indpendently corroborating the odd behavior seen by the operators on the USS Princeton.

I wasn't completely skeptical when I first heard of this a few years back, and am definitely less skeptical today.

I don’t waste too much time on the UFO stuff, But I do enjoy when they come up with some of the nuttier stuff, it gives me a giggle.
Like there’s one guy who claimed he had photos of the aliens. The “alien photos” turned out to picture he snapped from his TV screen of singer-dancers on the Dean Martin Show.

And people actually believe this stuff. Oy.

I went to a UFO convention in Laughlin, NV a few years back.

During one of the sessions there was a guy sitting next to me showing me a bunch of those Billy Meier photos.

The guy was absolutely convinced they were real alien flown UFOs.

You can’t fix stupid. ;-)
