Virtue-signaling is one of the lowest forms of opportunism, but not all attempts are equal. Here are the five worst types:
1. Virtue-signaling the implausible, for cheap applause
In the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo addressed concerns about the potential economic damage of banning citizens from working by claiming, "if everything we can do saves just one life, I'll be happy."
A few days later, Cuomo tweeted, "My mother is not expendable. Your mother is not expendable. We will not put a dollar figure on human life."
It might be surprising that an ardent supporter of unrestricted abortion would profess such a commitment to saving lives, but even if we ignore Cuomo's abortion stance, his statements instantly qualify as among the worst of its kind.

2. Virtue-signaling their battle against invisible enemies
When Elizabeth Warren chastises racism for murdering Michael Brown, she is capitalizing on the perfect virtue-signaling opportunity.
Even though Michael Brown did not have his hands up, and his death was not the result of racism, all virtue-signaling regarding the ordeal is immune to criticism. If the claim turns out to be a lie, it remains viable because the incident highlights the "larger societal issue." If it wasn't true, it should have been. Professing their unrelenting resolve to continue fighting invisible oppressors is the key.

One side does not know which bathroom to go to. The other side has all the ammo.
Godless sanctimony.
We have millions now with no job no home no car and no hope. The human despair will come at the cost of a lot of lives.
We must restart the economy. Even starting today it will take years to recover.
Sometimes I think they do this just so they can prompt responses that it is insane so they can call conservatives uncaring.
The left has been hoping for a recession to take down Trump and to help their argument for socialism. It was not going to happen so it looks like they created it.
I was just thinking about this very issue yesterday. My conclusion was that the most dumbass virtue signaler of all time has to be General George Casey. Hes the imbecile who, after the Ft Hood shooting, in which 14 innocent people were slaughtered by a devout muslim made this comforting comment.
Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think thats worse,
Top that one. Go.
I will have to think some. I am not sure I can top that one.
Cuomo exposed himself to be more political than astute.
This was a COUP!
Almost. Strictly speaking, it was a coup attempt, because a coup is the successful overthrow of an existing government. The spirit of your post, however, was absolutely correct.
You’re right.
Ain’t that the truth. Too bad the country didn’t have an honest media, instead our media is propping up their Democrat friends.
“One side does not know which bathroom to go to. The other side has all the ammo.”
And the side with all the ammo is being destroyed by the side that doesn’t know which bathroom to use.
You have the ammo the other guy has the will, he’s going to win everytime.
In the culture war our side, with the ammo, has been routed.
“if everything we can do saves just one life, I’ll be happy.” A few days later, Cuomo tweeted, “My mother is not expendable. Your mother is not expendable. We will not put a dollar figure on human life.”
I just hope that the families of the murdered in nursing homes ban together and look for justice outside of NY. He needs to resign disgraced and sued civily for murdering those people using the despicable lies he spewed above
The one that is driving me nuts is ESPN showing baseball from Korea and splitting the screen to show you that the American announcers are sitting at home in their own separate living rooms and are NOT out at some Korean baseball stadium spreading the coronavirus. WTF??
I just finished a Smith’s Grocery (Krogers) survey and blasted them over their virtue signalling.
One was the one door in, one door out policy, which is past it’s due date.
The other, which really pist me off because it is so useless, is the one-way aisles. I have had an “interaction” with two aisle Nazis - one a staff member, t’other a customer, over that. Neither could explain to me how they were endangered if I passed them from a different direction while they stood pontificating in an aisle.
