Can I rain on the parade?
Too bulky, too slow reload and low round count in the cylinder...at least compared to a semi-auto.
I’ve always liked a revolver best, went for a semi auto for 2 reasons.
1. Less expensive. I could get 2 of the 9mm Taurus G2C I did for the price of almost any 357 out there.
2. Slimmer and easier to conceal.
Otherwise, I’ve always liked a wheelgun better.
Revolver has always been one of my favorite Beatle albums.
I’ll never forget the first time I heard the full, stereophonic recording of.....Oh....Wrong Revolver....Never Mind!
Had a Detective Special back in my gun shop days, got it for $60, employee deal. Colt’s Royal Blue was fine, what a great blued finish it was... (It’s all in the polishing work!)
Banana shape is horrible ergonomics. Ugly things and not designed for accuracy. I couldnt hit sh1f with my Blackhawk. Gimme a 1911 or Sig P226 any day.
I carry a Ruger 38 special all the time, you can’t tell I have it on me, throw in a speed loader or two just in case, as others have said, in the very rare case if you need to pull your firearm, how many rounds would you really need, it would be highly unlikely that you would be engaged in an extended shootout...
There is no chance it jams, plus a 38 hollow point round is sufficient take down someone if necessary
A good many pocket rockets (380’s, 9s) don’t have much more capacity than J-frame revolvers (5v6).It really depends on what “EDC” is for a person. I have an 8 round (357s) Smith that I really like, but I don’t carry it while in my speedo.
I like them both.
From my female point of view-I prefer a revolver to a semi-auto-MrT5 did as well. My self defense weapon is a .38 Special my 1st hubby gave me as a 1st anniversary present-it is the one I carry when I need to and it is always close at hand here at home-on my desk or under my pillow.
I also have a .357 revolver that was MrT5’s favorite carry weapon...
In my opinion, self-defense hinges on a few things before choice of firearm.
1. Awareness. People who are aware a) don’t blunder into dangerous situations; and b) criminals don’t target them, because they want the easy score.
2. Alertness. Related to 1 of course but in the event something does occur, being able to act promptly IMO outweighs choice of weapon (e.g., a bad situation is starting and you simply leave, or draw attention, and nothing violent even occurs).
Somewhere way under those are things like reaction time and draw speed, then accuracy, and then somewhere on the bottom come things like caliber (relevant for poorly-placed shots — a good shot to the central nervous system works always) and capacity (relevant if you’ve really messed up and have gotten into a gun *battle* probably with multiple other persons).
Having an arm you’re competent, comfortable, and confident in plays into point 2 in that you’re prepared to take defensive action.
Totally different story if your *job* involves going into bad situations purposefully.

Revolvers are boring, stupid, and antiquated. Enjoy this!
The gun you have on you is better than the 1911 you left in the safe.
My edc is a 2” bbl chambered for .357 and S&W .38 special. Carry round is .38 spcl +P, with 125 grain HP.
I can wander out in my flip flops and Tommy Bahama shorts and just not worry about it.
If a revolver had one single advantage over SA’s , you’d see every LEO and soldier carrying them.
Those with arthritis need not reply.
EDC? Acronyms are a PITA!
The worst gun I ever owned was a Sterling .22LR. It never fired more than one shot without jamming.
Even that would have been better than nothing. Just barely.
I would trust a .38 Special 158gr LSWCHP for personal defense any time before any .380 or 9mm. Besides, try as I might, 9mm handguns just don't appeal to me for some reason. I rented a CZ a few months ago and enjoyed shooting it, but it was too big for me to consider for an EDC weapon.
So my EDC continues to be a .38 Special, I have several.
One thing though, as I've gotten older I don't shoot that airweight model 642 as well as I used to. I'm considering an aluminum frame .22 magnum to replace it as my minimalist revolver. I would trust a .22 magnum before a little pocket .380, too... although the Smith bodyguard is OK...
Nice Colt, BTW. Is it a Diamondback?
Around 20 years ago I was on my parents property camping.
I decided to do some testing. I had several old cans of tomatoes. I focused a video camera at the cans and taped the cans as they were hit.
I first tried ,44 magnum with 240 gr. jhp. As expected the results were interesting. What I didn’t expect was the 9mm 90 gr jhp Super Vel was far more impressive.
Obviously I would not want to be hit with a .44 at that velocity, but that little 9mm buzz bomb, well it would be scary.
I like the Taurus 5 shot Judge. Fires a .45 long colt or a 410 shotgun shell. I keep my home defense weapon loaded with #6 shot .410’s.
