Have arrived at the age where I have more memories than future plans...so I'm sorting through photographs and papers when I find documents from 2005 referring to The Veterans History Project.
It began when I found 200 letters - between a married couple during WWII in a yard sale.
I catalogued them and contacted the History project. They asked if they could come to my office and get them (working in DC at the time).
The next day a young man and woman came to the office and asked where I was - they were from the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS!!!!!!! My colleagues were impressed!!!!!!!!
That's all - but it was a special day.
Do you have a special story?
Are there any brick makers on FR?
If you are one, or anyone you know on FR is, please FReep mail me...
Very nice story.
Thank you for posting.
.........
I don’t go to reunions.
None of my friends show up.
They send old people in their places.
People who have a bigger past than future.
I try to make my future bigger than my past.
No coasting.
To each their own.
I have the ones my parents wrote to each other during the Korean War.
Reading them was sometimes funny - the wife complained about not having enough money. Just the usual conversations they probably had when they lived together.
I think they were married for sixty years!!!
Last HS reunion I went to (45th) I commented to several people, “These are the people I went to High School with - I think everybody sent their parents instead.”
Some looked pretty ragged. I was complimented on my appearance more than once. But I was a late bloomer and was NOT popular or well known in school.
I guess time has a way of evening things out a bit.
