Verified, on iPhone. Set to “off.” How nice of them to make the default “off.”

I thought cv19 was winding down. But the development of this built-in software cost some money and took some time. Why? when cv19 is winding down? What are they not telling us? Is cv19 going to be with us all the time? (no) Is the installation of the software just an excuse to set up tracking capabilities? (yes)

The app knows nothing about cv19. It carries the label “Covid-19” but that doesn’t mean that it has any connection at all to cv19. It’s just a label. The app is a TRACKING app. It reports the results of the tracking to some central authority. For readers in Rio Linda, the same code could be used to track aids patients, or climate deniers. Just change the label and voila a new app!

I have Bluetooth turned on, and the Covid-19 setting is there, but it says that I have to install an app from my “regional government” and I should “Please check with your regional government for information.” NOW I’m paranoid!

OL Hickory :" android?
goto settings, then google
if ya got the update its there

Android here,.. yup I've got it too !
Apparently, the covi-19 update occurs only when bluetooth is on.
I rarely use bluetooth, except when traveling in my vehicle.
Involuntary permissions are one of my bugga-boos about a Giggle smart cellphone.
This no 'permission given' covid download, and cell location are two of my issues.

Yup it’s om my LG Aristo 2 phone.
Looks like that T-Mobile outage a few days ago wasn’t just a “outage”...

I shut off location service and bluetooth.

Dont forget to go through yuur apps and set them to use location information only when the application is in use.

On Samsung, go to Settings / Location / Recent location requests

Select each app (Google)
Scroll down to permissions, then select location

Apparently several of my settings were altered to Allow all the time

I don’t understand what the app will accomplish. It would log when you come in close contact with another phone with the app turned on, but how would it know if the other phone’s owner had the virus?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Contact tracing is used to quarantine people believed to be exposed to the virus. You don’t have to be ill. They are vigorous about quarantining people. If you don’t have space in your home for that person to “quarantine safely” (e.g., they have to have their own bathroom etc.) then the state will take them to off site temporary housing. They will take children out of a home.
You can be contact traced over and over - exposed at the restaurant - 14 days quarantine, Exposed again somewhere else, according to your phone proximity to a traced person then quarantined again. No limit on back-to-back quarantines as long as the public can expose you. You never have to have the virus. They use the app to track you to make sure you don’t break quarantine, but they also have someone actively monitoring you on a daily basis to enforce quarantine.
At gatherings like Trump’s rally, imagine the contact tracing. Conservatives will be reported with asymptomatic Covid-19 because they control the testing and test results. None of it ever has to be true.
I’d read that if you are contact traced, you are ordered to activate the app.
What did you find? “covi-19”, “Covid”, what? Could you uninstall it?
BTW this is not an “update”. This is a virus, a spy on you, a warrantless 24/7 search (from the gubmint?) which requires your phone location service “on “ as well as Bluetooth so they’re draining your battery without your permission aside from the unauthorized spying part.
Wonder if they can keep the mic & camera on if they choose?
Please do answer the first question. Covi what? How could you tell. My phone seems to be clean but maybe I’m missing something.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, it’s been installed on my Android phone without any notice to me. Disabling Bluetooth unfortunately disables the sync with my car radio that allows hands free operation of the phone...required by law in my state. This is total crap. I will be further researching how to disable this invasion of my privacy. I hope Google gets hit with a big class action lawsuit.
https://support.google.com/android/answer/9888358
By default it’s turned off.
“How Exposure Notifications work
When you turn on Exposure Notifications within an app from your region’s government public health authority, your phone shares random IDs with other nearby phones that also have turned on the Exposure Notifications System.
Throughout the day, your phone and the phones around you exchange random IDs. When your phone detects a random ID from another device, it records and stores the ID.
If someone reports having COVID-19 and their ID is stored on your phone, the app will notify you of next steps to take.”
