NEW YORK (AP) - Milton Glaser, the groundbreaking graphic designer who adorned Bob Dylan’s silhouette with psychedelic hair and summed up the feelings for his native New York with “I (HEART) NY,” died Friday, his 91st birthday.

**SNIP**

In posters, logos, advertisements and book covers, Glaser’s ideas captured the spirit of the 1960s with a few simple colors and shapes. He was the designer on the team that founded New York magazine with Clay Felker in the late ’60s.

**SNIP**

The bold “I (HEART) NY” logo - cleverly using typewriter-style letters as the typeface - was dreamed up as part of an ad campaign begun in 1977 to boost the state’s image when crime and budget troubles dominated the headlines. Glaser did the design free of charge.

Nearly a quarter-century later, just days after the Sept. 11 terror attacks, he revised it, adding a dark scar to the red heart and “more than ever” to the message.

Head of the Sodom Chamber of Commerce: Alright, Noab, can you give us a sample?

Noab: Alright, gentlemen. I think this is a concept that you’re going to love. Kids?

I moved to New England in the late 70’s. I LOVED that campaign. The TV ads would show people enjoying their lifestyle in NY. I clearly remember one ad that showed a family getting ready to climb a mountain trail and the Dad looks at the camera and says ‘ we love to hike in it!’. It really did showcase so many activities that I’m sure it increased tourism to the state. And yes, most of the activities shown weren’t in the City.

Before his death, Glaser mentioned he had heard of the coronavirus. Per Gov. Baby Doc Cuomo’s edict, the cause of death is listed as “COVID-19.”

In the comments about his passing at DailyManure.uk, a few posters noted that seeing Cuomo and deBlasio’s ruination of New York probably caused him to die brokenhearted.

RIP to an inspiring American, top of his profession.

I’d say that is a sign that the Big Apple has become full of worms, and that the I Love New York slogan is now a thing of the past.

Dylan’s Greatest Hits album was one of the first I ever bought, from the Columbia Record Club, and I put that poster on my ceiling. Even though I mostly grew up in New York, I don’t think I ever knew that Glaser had also done the I Love NY logo.
