This will really only affect people in the big metropolitan areas. Everyone in the small town I live in already wears them in the big stores, etc. They make you wear them as you enter the courthouse and hospital as it is.

Drag 2 employees to the Produce section (everybody wearing masks) have one stand 6’ away and another 12’ away ... grab an Orange and peel it ... ask if either can smell it (they both will) then explain to them that the Orange Oil Molecule is MORE than 10,000 times larger than a Virus ... their Mask DID NOTHING to keep them from smelling the Orange, it does LESS than Nothing to protect them from a Virus.

Oddly, it is there in plain sight, as everybody has to report the disparate impact graphs, showing how much worse minorities like hispanics and black people are being impacted.
They always throw in words about how this shows the “racism” of our medical system, but the high case count in hispanic and minority communities clearly indicates they are not doing a good job of distancing, or keeping hygiene, or wearing masks.
In Virginia, I live next to two of the highest-rate zip codes, both are primarily hispanic communities, where they never stopped playing soccer, always congregate in parking lots, live multiple families to a house.
I’m not sure what “death rate per case” does for the argument, if the issue is that you have doubled your case load. The question was whether more people were dying.
Now, that is also a stupid question, because theoretically, everybody is going to get this at some point, and whoever dies will die, and of course if we are better at treating, fewer people will die, and of course as more young people get it, the “death rate” will drop.
But in Texas, cases, hospitalizations, and even deaths are moving upward. Nobody wants to lock down again, and as a lot of so-called scientists are claiming that masks are about 80% effective in stopping the spread, it’s a shot at avoiding lockdowns.
Personally, I think shutting down the bars will do most of the work, as bars seem to be popping up on all the tracer reports as the place where people are spreading. Half-drunk people standing toe-to-toe drinking and shouting over music for hours at a time. One sick person goes into the bar, and spittles pretty much half the customers.
In one bar, a few girls who clearly had the disease got with their friends, 16 total, and went to a bar in Florida. By the next week, all 16, plus 7 workers, had positive cases.
It may not matter, they all seem to recover, but the atmosphere is still “keep the numbers down, or we will lock down”, and so if we waste time wearing masks and the numbers drop, we’ve achieved a goal of some sort.
Plus, people seem to feel better when others are wearing masks, which is not a medical thing, but whatever.
I may be moving to Texas to escape the communists in Washington State if Fuhrer Inslee not defeated in November. Too bad the governor can't just switch positions with the Lt. governor. I think the Number 2 guy right now gets it. Abbot does appear to have an authoritarian streak in him that he can't control. Just sayin.
A lawsuit has been filed in Washington State challenging the statewide face diaper edict. Haven't been able to find the actual court documents yet to read the particulars. Perhaps a similar suit with success in TX would help those who “ I can't breathe.”

No they aren't? They are slowly trending up since the beginning of June. June 30th tied the record of most deaths in a day.
Think about it, we are seeing a big uptick in positive cases, that's a leading indicator for deaths. People get diagnosed, start to do worse, then go to hospital, then ventilator, then die. So if there is a spike like yesterday of a few thousand cases, we won't see the results in deaths for another 2-3 weeks.
