To Paul Gallant,
I suspect that you have learned the TRUTH in the old saying that, “Many a liberal has become an instant conservative, when he was also victimized.”
As a retired LEO, I suggest that your FIRST firearm for defense (and for any number of other uses) is either a DOUBLE-BARREL 12 or 20 gauge shotgun OR a PUMP-GUN in either gauge.
(Do NOT be afraid to buy a GOOD/”name brand”/used shotgun of either sort, as pump & double-barrel shotguns last for GENERATIONS with little more than an occasional cleaning & wipe-down with an oily rag.)
I would also strongly advise you to take a few hours of PROFESSIONAL lessons from a qualified shooting coach.
(Most NEW shooters will be fully competent to handle/load/unload/maintain/fire SAFELY with either sort of shotgun with 2-3 hours of professional coaching.)
Expect to pay 20-50 dollars per hour for the time of a GOOD shooting coach & just accept that it was worth every penny that you spent for being properly trained.

The media and marxists are doubling-down and insisting that there is no violence in Portland and other cities.
It is a case of believe what we say, not what you see...which is life under marxism.
The word is spelled D-O-G. My daughter could spell the word correctly when she was two years old.
Or is there a reason he is typing in Ebonics? I guess he is trying to be "down with the struggle." Does he have a "No Hate Here!" sign on his apartment door? Maybe a "Black Lives Matter!" bumper sticker on his Prius?

Mugged by reality.
It’s red ribbons for AIDS awareness. Yellow ribbons to show support for our troops. Pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness. Puzzle pieces ribbons for autism awareness. What color ribbons do we wear for terminal case of dumbass awareness?
Brown.
He was ok with the city burning until it interfered with his half-caf skinny vanilla latte with a pinch of Madagascar cinnamon.
Too bad he didn’t feel the full force of the out of control rioters.
Great business being done in plywood in these cities with the peaceful protestors. Remember the "broken window" rules that Giuliani used to bring back New York City? This is the mirror image!
