A swarm of earthquakes beneath the Salton Sea began on August 10, 2020.
The largest earthquake that has occurred, as of this release, is a magnitude 4.6 at 8:56 AM PDT on August 10. This earthquake and the associated swarm are located approximately 8 miles from the southern end of the San Andreas Fault. This area has also seen swarms in the past most recently, in 2001, 2009, and 2016. Past swarms have remained active for 1 to 20 days, with an average duration of about a week.
During this earthquake swarm, the probability of larger earthquakes in this region is significantly greater than usual. The southernmost section of the San Andreas Fault is capable of rupturing in large magnitude earthquakes (magnitude 7+), but the last earthquake that strong was more than 300 years ago. In a typical week, there is approximately a 1 in 10,000 chance of a magnitude 7+ earthquake on the southernmost San Andreas Fault. That probability is significantly elevated while swarm activity remains high.

Bacillus Thuringiensis kills munching caterpillars. Spray it on the leaves and as they eat it, it messes with their digestive system and they die. It does not hurt anything else.
“So, youre saying theres a chance?.................”
There’s a chance that a hummungus asteroid could hit us and we wouldn’t even notice the earthquake.
I saw the FIRST Star Wars in 1977 and that was such a disappointment I never went to see another one.............
these quakes must be a different depths. We’re not far from there, geographically speaking, and while we’ve felt some small, I guess you could call them subsonic rumbles through the bedrock, we didn’t feel the larger 4.1 yesterday at all.
Good to know.
I’m sure you’re right.
Hi.
Lots and lots of earthquakes these days.
I have been blessed. I have lived in CA, Italy and Turkey, and have never experienced a quake over 5.8
5.56mm
There’s always hope...
There’s always hope...
So, you’re telling me there’s a hope of a chance?..............
That and a chance of hope!
Possibility #4: We fall right into the frikkin’ sea.
There are several areas in California that are prone to earthquake swarms, hyperventilating because this swarm is at the tail end of the San Andreas is like running in the street and screaming we are all going to die. The swarm on the fault running through Ridgecrest is/was much more severe. The swarm at The Geysers, CA never stops and no doubt Mammoth Lake will start swarming again, so what? it’s California and part of our everyday life, embrace it and don’t fear the Reaper.
Some predict a cataclysmic earthquake on the southern end of the fault, will be similar to a crack-the-whip effect, causing everything on the northern end of CA to thrown into the air 20-30 feet. This includes buildings, homes, freeways etc.
And that will set off the Cascadian Fault. Interesting times
The only one hyperventilating is you over imagined hyperventilating.
Relax, have a drink.
I’m not the posting about silly earthquake swarms, put the glass down.
