A single mouse may stray into a home and be quickly eliminated, but that ought not to be the default assumption. Any appearance of a mouse or signs of a mouse (droppings, gnawing, spoiled food) should produce a thorough effort to locate and repair any point of entry.

Use Victor brand mouse traps. More humane than those sticky traps. A well set Victor trap will snap the little mousie neck in a second. Sticky traps are icky traps, IMO. 🐭🧀

It’s in the kitchen..easy...get a skewer..wooden will work but preferably a big ole long metal one..

Stab the critter on the skewer....

I’m a big fan of the “bar” type rat poison.
You can see how much disappears to kill them. They go away to die.

Landlord can’t do anything about other tenants’ habits that encourage rats.
But that tenant can.

Get a cat. Period. Nothing else is 100% effective.

I use this type of trap. They work great. They are reusable. You can lift the metal bar and the dead mouse falls out without touching anything that was in contact with the mouse.

I drop them into a plastic bag and seal it and throw it in the trash. Reset the trap, rinse, repeat.
