A bald eagle launched an aerial assault on a drone operated by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy known as EGLE ripping off a propeller and sending the aircraft into Lake Michigan.
The $950 drone sent 27 warning notifications in the 3.5 seconds that it took to spiral to the water, including one noting that a propeller was missing
King pressed a button to return the $950 drone to him and was viewing his video screen when the drone began to twirl.
Two birdwatchers who were nearby saw the bird attack something but told officials they didnt realize it was a drone.

The bald eagle is a magnificent bird. I would not frack with it....
It’s illegal by Federal Law to mess with eagles. I mean, people have been arrested for merely picking up an eagle feather off of the ground. Shouldn’t those law breaking State employees be under arrest?
Not just eagles. Migratory bird act means you can’t screw with eggs, nests, feathers. Any species.

The only difference with this one is this is a drone the state paid $950 for so it was probably worth $100-$200 in real life.
“A bald eagle launched an aerial assault on a drone operated by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy known as EGLE”
The Eagle was just protecting it’s trademark rights to its own name, and the Department for thinkink they could fool the majestic bird by altering the spelling.
Cool! Very happy for the Eagle!
The drone was being used to map lake shore erosion. I would bet the eagle had a nest in a tree nearby.
Probably.
Still, Eagles +1. State Drones 0.
The Dutch are training eagles to attack drones.

“the state paid”
the taxpayers paid
They also paid the employees to fly the drone.
You have to get up earlier in the morning. Eagles ride the thermal updrafts that develop as the surface warms.
I would agree, it sounds like they were Terrorizing a Protected Eagle, JAIL TIME!!
If the writer of this incident actually putting the video up for us to see would have been helpful, don’tcha think?
Kayaking one day, a bald eagle swooped low over us. A feather dropped to the river just ahead of one of my boys.
Dont even think of picking it up I yelled.
All they had to do is put a little speaker on the drone that would play the Star Spangled Banner then the eagles would kneel.
I photograph for a non-profit organization that does raptor research. He is a PhD biologist.
With a Federal permit, we can do anything we want, research wise, under his guidance.
I imagine these state research people had a permit as well.
