Special Dispatch to the New-York Times. WASHINGTON, Thursday, Sept. 6. The Committee of New-York politicians left for your City this afternoon, to be present at a meeting of the Breckinridge State Central Committee to-morrow. Before leaving they had another conference with President BUCHANAN and the Cabinet, and it was arranged that the Breckinridge Committee should propose to join the fusion in New-York, provided the DOUGLAS men were dropped from the ticket and the Breckinridge men substituted in their places. By this proposition they are to stand or fall. If accepted by the Fusionists, Mr. BUCHANAN pledges the influence of the Administration; but if not, then the whole power of the Administration is to be placed in the hands of the Breckinridge Party, to make best fight they can. GREEN was opposed to any compromise, but Mr. BUCHANAN refused to take the responsibility or electing LINCOLN without first making a show for a fusion, and in this he was supported by Secretaries COBB and THOMPSON. The Committee yielded, and they will lay the arrangement before the State Central Committee at their meeting to-morrow. Neither party here believe the terms will be accepted, and hence the Douglas office holders in your State may stand from under. The truth is, the Douglas wing do not regard the Breckinridge strength worth purchasing at any price. Gen. LANE, I understand, is desirous of compromise. The Breckinridge Committee here are completely nonplussed at their candidate taking the stump, as they had been abusing DOUGLAS for the same thing.

Lots of Scots and Scotch-Irish in Canada. A portent of things to come in the distant future between them and the British Crown?
