Footage shows the smoldering ruins of the iconic Cressman's General Store in Fresno County after the Creek Fire.
Cressman's General Store and Gas Station, a frequented stop for travelers headed toward Shaver or Huntington Lakes, was destroyed as the Creek Fire grew in Fresno County overnight. The walls of Cressman's General Store and Gas Station were turned to rubble, and the once-green trees surrounding it were left charred and bare.
Located between Auberry Road and Cressman Road on Highway 168, the store, which has been around since 1904, sold snacks, drinks, and fishing gear for visitors flocking to the Fresno County mountains.
The Central Valley community mourned the loss of an iconic business that was a part of getaways for many generations.
You can check out the video, too.
Thank God we stopped the Timber Industry from harvesting all those densely populated trees into Pianos and Houses, and dont forget all the dead wood that we prevented from being harvested and sold for firewood for campers,....
The law of unintended consequences...
I know right?
Think what could have happened if we hadn't stopped that.
Wont hear from the freaks about the carbon being spewed into the air from these fires either.
Not only carbon, but nasty stuff such as mercury that is being sucked off the ground and into the air.
Just remember, a good portion of the air pollution that settles in those trees/ground comes from Asia/China. You get to breath that also within the smoke that is being expelled with these fires. So that stuff, your getting it twice. Once when it drifts over from there and once when it is released into the air from these fires.
Here is a case where you really should wear a mask. I will let the doctors on this site explain what raw carbon/pollution like this does to your lungs/body. Especially mercury.
Imagine how many BTUs that could have been used for BIO mass generation plants for electric power.
Now to be sure, it aint as cheap as coal or hydro, but its a hell of a lot cheaper than solar/wind and it is way less expensive than anyone thinks-I.E. the costs of fighting these fires and the loss of dwellings from these fires.
Virtually ALL that woody fiber could be used in Biomass plants.
The new existing plants are well below regulations for emissions. WELL BELOW.
Cant have that can we now?
How sad, I’ve been there a few times.
Ping
The same thing has happened in Colorado with beetle kill. Instead of logging out the dead wood and putting it to use and replanting the forest we are leaving it as fuel for future disasters....
Goes to show God meant for His trees to be used in a variety of ways by man and to be a blessing to mankind.
Heard that Cressman’s had been burned. Now praying that Jone’s store up on Beshore road can be saved.
The friends I talked to living up there said they didn’t see any evidence of fire fighting. Is it still 0% contained?

Or from Oregon to California, or from space to California.
I couldn't see most of what he was talking about on youtube, but I did see it a couple of times, and then I went to weather.cod.edu which he recommended and was able to see it there.

As far as I have last heard, it is still sitting at 0 percent. I agree that there is very little firefighting going on. I haven’t heard about any CalFire planes or helicopters doing water or retardant drops. This monster is creating its own wind and weather. It is creating lightning and fire tornados. The smoke is so heavy that they cannot safely fly.
That is why they are still working on getting trapped people to safety. I heard that the Mammoth Pools helicopter rescue team was told to divert for the second landing due to smoke and wind. They decided to go for it anyway. And then they overloaded the helicopter so that they did not leave anyone behind. I am very sure those people on that flight knew that everyone on that team was a hero.
The ground crews are so busy trying to get people, pets, and animals safely out. That is and needs to be their priority.
I did hear that parts of Yosemite National Park, including Wawona area are now on pre-evacuation status.
I know the state is overtaxed on firefighting right now, but this seems like the most dangerous fire right now. Is it over 140k acres and 0% containment. I just worry the later inroads are made, the harder it will be to control.
