Electrify them.
Metal framed signs? Wet the ground around the sign and attach an electrical cord to the frame. Disguise the cord and plug it in.
Smear crushed Poison Ivy leaves on the most likely grab points. Or use a toxic chemical that burns the skin.
Motion detectors set to activate your lawn sprinklers, with a couple of sprays directed at the signs.
They grab the signs by the sides to remove them.... Flypaper on the sides with a light coating of super hot sauce should do it..

One thing's for sure...if it's stolen our police department won't do a damn thing about it.That department denied me a license to carry despite having an *absolutely* flawless record...I had to apply to the State Police for approval under the state's unconstitutional gun laws.

This is probably not practical for your situation but I once had a yard sign stolen but I found it down the street.
So I got a ladder and a portable drill out and screwed it to the trunk of a tree about 15 feet up.
Problem solved.

Thanks, I called them. It is too expensive and lasts only half an hour. It is for personal protection. Those people wait few hours I guess.
We are trying to do this when practical.
It will last longer than that as long as it isn’t rained upon.
They wait a while. At least several hours. I am not sure Barfume lasts that long.

About 20 years ago during a state election for governor, someone stole my yard sign. I got another one and one of those trip wire 120 dB sirens that will only turn off with a key (~$20).
Two nights after installation, the siren went off, I found the sign and the siren a couple of feet from where the sign had been pulled up. I did not catch the thief, but I’ll bet I gave him/her a surprise they weren’t expecting.
