Work Place and Covid

I have noticed a growing trend at my workplace.

Many people are taking advantage of getting sick and staying how for weeks. My HR said you get 80 hours for covid if you get sick.. plus by law your HR can not tell you were to take the covid test. So it if takes days or goodness knows how long so be it

One coworker who is 21 already got sick twice and used the 80 hours. Covid test was negative TWICE. Sat at home for weeks.

Lady in the legal dept did the same and both tests were negative. Few others same thing also. Gone for two weeks.

Anyone else seeing this at their work place? I am in IL so the law might be different where you live.

Don’t worry, all is well.
Tourism, restaurants, airlines, cruises, hotels, bars, schools, University town businesses, entertainment, and others are all just fine.

1) A lot of places combine sick time and vacation time. You can be sick if you want to, but that means your beach vacation just went out the window.

2) A lot of people are working from home — some employers take the position that they don’t want you spreading germs, but you might as well keep working while you’re sick. “You’re not in the hospital? Good! I need these reports by 3 PM.”

One of my coworkers (California) said she had a sore throat and had gotten tested for Covid. She was out for weeks “waiting for the results.” Then when the results came back negative, a relative in her household got the sniffles or something and SHE got tested. Then we had to wait for HER results. Then it was another relative.

Everyone’s so terrified of Covid, if there’s even a small possibility somebody has it, they’re told, “Don’t come to work!” And “waiting for the results” can take as long as somebody claims it takes.

People are definitely scamming the system.

In life there are obviously more than two types of people, but when it comes to work there are really two types of people

The first type of person is industrious and likes to work likes to get up every day and go do something likes to build something light to show something for his efforts every day

The second type of person , if they had money , would just sit around and do nothing - look at their phone , sit at the beach ; and only goes to work because they have to do to earn money to pay the bills

The perfectly healthy kids who are taking all the sick time off to do nothing are the latter type

I’ve been a contractor for a very long time and I’ve seen him comment I’ve seen him go

but the best employees are the ones where you takeoff from the job site , you come back hours or days later , and you expect something to have been done and they got not only what you wanted to get done but more

The government pays for the 80 hours in the form of a withholding tax credit for the business. It is a provision in the Covid relief bill.

I like give me my job and stay away from me.
I can’t stand middle managers and their endless meetings.
And meetings about meetings.
And meeting about meetings about meetings...

I am 71 years old and had the dreaded Chinese flu when it went through our Kansas town in January. I am pretty sure I survived, do not know anyone who died and have no tolerance for mask nazis. Get over it people. Some of you have lives so get out and live them.

Seeing the same.

When headcount reductions are needed, the people abusing the time off are the first to go. That won't be the listed reason of course, but generally speaking, these are the types of people who are slackers in other areas as well.

You might consider getting sick before winter hits and you can’t play outside.
