A day after golf icon Jack Nicklaus felt the need to inform the world of what was already pretty obvious, NHL Hall of Famer and Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr made it known that he would also be voting for Donald Trump in the upcoming U.S. election by buying a full-page ad in Friday's New Hampshire Union Leader endorsing the current president.

I’m a little skeptical of impact of celebrity athlete endorsements... but Bobby Orr still to this day, the greatest hockey defenseman ever, revolutionalized the position.

could have impact in all the big hockey loving swing states (NH, ME, MN, MI)

I read Orr’s autobiography, and I must say that he comes across as one of the most decent, unassuming superstars of all time.

I saw a fantastic interview with him a couple of years ago. He said one of his only regrets as a pro hockey player was that he didn’t have the chance to play with Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.

Well, I must say that one of my only regrets as a hockey fan is that I didn’t have a chance to see the great #4 play in person.

I had a Bobby Orr waste basket when I was a kid in MA. Wish I’d have kept it. Would probably be worth a few bucks these days.

This might put Massachusetts in play. He is revered state-wide. Well, maybe not, but it could tighten up the state.

I watched him and a few other greats play- it was a privilege to see them on the ice- I am NOT a hockey fan by any means, but my goodness- when he was playing, it was a whole nother story- you knew you were witnessing history-

It was in my opinion, like someone who would have watched Hank Aaron or babe ruth, or any number of really great ball players for those that were around then- I only wish i coulda seen them too- but i was aroudn for Yazstremski (Spelling), Clemmens, Carlton Fisk- Wade Boggs, etc- that was awesome to watch- Those were great years in America- Not to mentio nthe greats in basketball- Bird, Jordan, McKale (sp?), Johnson, Kareem, etc-

For those who didn’t see him play, there are tons of video clips on youtube of him. He looks like an adult playing children. I was fortunate in that I grew up watching him, from his first season til his last.

Due to his opponents targeting his knees, they gave out, prematurely and cut his career short. If only knee surgery available today (arthroscopic and knee replacement) had been available back then, he inevetably could have played many more years.

HA HA HA HA HA HA

No, it will not put Mass in play.

That is why this was printed in the Manchester(NH) Union Leader newspaper. I might have a small effect in NH.

i do feel privileged to have seen him, and other Boston greats play- Can still remember going over to our uncle’s place to watch it- as uncle and aunt were huge fans then- We’d get the popcorn made, and I can still see my aunt screaming at the TV- jumping up when he scored or defended- or When Esposito (Sp?) would do the same-

I think it was a fella named O’Reilly that they called ‘the enforcer’? Whenever a fight would break out? We’d all be o n the edge of our seats watching the brawls hat would break out- lol- was a lot of fun back then- No cable TV- just an old floor model you had to twist the rabbit ears on till you got it just right to see well enough- lol

I lived about 50 miles, as the bird flies from Boston and could not see the puck in the game the reception was so bad. When I was 10, I climbed up a pine tree, took a few branches off, and strapped a UHF antenna on it pointing at boston, and got darn near cable TV reception.

Mine too. When the Hartford Whalers entered the NHL I sprung for a not-cheap seat to their first game in Pittsburgh, just so I could tell my grandchildren that I had seen Gordie Howe play in person.

He was 51 years old with a big shock of gray hair.
Honestly, just about the dirtiest player I had ever seen in person. Maybe at that point in his career he had to be.

we were a couple hundred miles from boston- the reception was ok enough to see the puck, but certainly nowhere near cable quality- and we only had a couple of channels we could watch back then- due to reception issues- now we have 1900 channels we never watch lol
