The returns received during yesterday entirely justified the enthusiasm with which the Republicans received the first intimations of victory. The fact that Mr. LINCOLN is to be the next President of the United States, if it needed confirmation, received it in each successive flash along the telegraph wires, until speculation settled down upon the mere calculation of his majority. But speculation was even here at a loss, so unexpectedly large were the majorities. We give in the subjoined table the estimates and actual figures, as far as they have been received from the States indicated. They will of course be modified hereafter: THE PRESIDENTIAL VOTE MAJORITIES FOR LINCOLN. Maine................................ 20,000 New-Hampshire.......................... 9,000 Vermont................................. 11,000 Massachusetts........................... 55,000 Rhode Island............................ _____ Connecticut............................. 10,000 New-York...............................40,000 Pennsylvania............................ 50,000 Michigan................................ 25,000 Ohio................................... 32,000 Indiana.................................. 27,000

Nice one. I edited your reply down to 240 characters and posted it to my Twitter account, along with the map. I’ll let you know if there is a reaction. Do you tweet, by the way? My handle is now @USADeardorff. My original account got permanently suspended after my 3rd strike for hurting the feelings of progressive snowflakes.
Good evening Professor.
I pray we don’t end up in 2021 like we did in 1861. 2021 would make 1861 look like a walk in the park on a warm spring day.
Why does history rhyme?
Hell, it really repeats itself, but the characters change.

Oh, dear...
Years ago I signed up for facebook, had all my family & cousins on it but had to give it up to keep peace in the family -- too many flaming liberals! ;-)
Twitter is beyond the scope of my outlook -- don't understand it, don't want it...
I look at it this way: what do I want to tell the world, that can't be said on Free Republic?
