Horses have the rightaway on the shared use trail I go to.
I wonder if this group knew that, or how not to spook a horse.
Every single nature-oriented publication and organization has gone WOKE over the issue of getting blacks into nature, as if thereโ€™s an actual wall that has been depriving them.

A group of about 80 or 90 people seems like way too many to be in one party in a wilderness area.

“Horses have the rightaway on the shared use trail I go to.”

I always get off the trail for horses and trail bikes. They always say thank you.

"Blackpackers"

Another example of "Emphasizing racial identity is ok for me, but not for thee."

No video? In this day and age, especially given that television producers were involved? Drones? No video, no event.

Isn’t hiking “acting white?”

I think a hiking club is a great idea. But I see no racism here.

She has a hiking club, and hikes with groups of around 15. Great. But even 15 is enough that as the organizer she has an obligation to check regulations on group events. Most parks require permits for large groups.

On this day she was hiking with 70 participants. That's going to be an issue many places. And a film crew. Using drones. The park says

Park Permits: C.30.a. It shall be unlawful to conduct on Open Space Lands (i) a commercial activity including, but not limited to, concessions or an activity that provides a service or product for which a fee is charged, or (ii) a group or special activity, as defined by the Open Space Division, without first obtaining a valid Park Permit. Fine: $100.00 C.30.b. It shall be unlawful to violate any term or condition of a Park Permit.

Since the film was apparently aired, I'd guess it falls under commercial. Drones, they're not allowed in many parks. 70 hikers, I don't know who is dumber for not inquiring about a permit, the group organizer or the head of the film crew.

The trail, I presume it's wasn't a horse only trail. On shared trails usually horse traffic has the right away.

Mob is not a racist term.

Law enforcement seems to have handled the situation well, calmed it down and no arrests. Great. Why sheriffs deputies with sidearms is an issue I don't know. Law enforcement's reaction.

In the end, Newton and her fellow hikers were warned for failing to secure a permit for their group. Newton says she regrets putting members in a distressing โ€” and potentially life-threatening โ€” situation by unknowingly breaking a park rule. However, she suspects that a similarly sized hiking group of white women would not have been confronted so aggressively.

So yes, they were there illegally. Not a mob, just a group of entitled lawbreakers. If it was a group of 70 white women breaking the rules to make a movie, the only difference probably would be the issuance of citations.

That's the case on any shared trail I've been on. The group leader should have clearly instructed her hikers on this, most places you leave the trail and remain motionless.

Can't afford "gear" for a hike? Pray tell, what "gear" is needed? Coming from people who don't blink twice at buying Nike sneakers for a couple of hundred dollars, I smell BS.

May be to many, depends on the trail and how you space them in small groups. That many in one group, too many. As to dangerous, hikers spooking horses are in danger, and placing the rider in danger. But that’s not what she was thinking.

โ€œWhy is it that a group of Black women hiking on a trail on a Sunday afternoon in Colorado is considered a โ€˜mob?โ€™ โ€œ Prescott asks.

Because mobs of black women (and men) have been looting, burning, rioting all over the country since from May.

Note that throughout the article, “Black” is capitalized, but not “white.”

Well she didn’t know and didn’t care to find out what the rules are, then wants to complain that they are being singled out for being black, not because they aren’t following the rules.
Stupidity on steroids.

I’ve never seen so many black females on the nightly news staffs or on commercials. ~7% of the US population but WAY over represented on TV. Maybe appropriate for Washington DC and a few other places but not nationwide.
