Old Age Teddyboy
Cruising culture was an evolution of old traditions of strolling down Main Street or around the town square.
Although cruising was predominantly boys showing off their cars (ostensibly to meet girls), groups of girls joined in cruising as well. One appeal of cruising was that youths could evade the supervision of parents and family.
Driving slowly down long, straight streets, preferably with many traffic lights to increase opportunities to talk to other cruisers or pedestrians, was only one part of cruising. Cruisers would also gather in parking lots, particularly those of drive-ins, and listening to Rock`n`Roll from their radios.
Sit back and enjoy the video, listen to the music, and if your were doing this back in the 50`s enjoy the memories.
The American Dream - Cruisin the 50's (90 min)

We probably won't know until the morning if the slime ball commie-left 'democrats' managed to steal this election too.
The video is 90 mins of small-town 1950s footage combined with classic oldies playing in the background.
I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Much better viewed on full screen. On a large flat-screen TV with internet access, even better.
Cruising carried well onto the
70’s, mostly in smaller towns
where the kids had nothing else
to do on a Saturday summer night.
A Bob Sieger song comes to mind.
Night Moves.
That song is so melancholy, yet so indescribably beautiful.
Seger had his moments of deeply poetic justice, and then there were things like Flatbush.
There was lots of crusin here in New York City during the disco-era 70s. However, it was mostly done by Italians in Brooklyn driving long new Caddies and Lincolns, blasting the latest Disco tunes.
"Crusin" nowadays, unfortunately, has a whole new meaning.
...also Monte Carlos, Grand Prixs, Cutless Supremes, Buick Electras, Rivieras, etc.
Cars like these...
'77 Pontiac Grand Prix
'75 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
'75 Cadillac Coupe DeVille
'75 Lincoln Mark 4
'75 Buick Riviera
'75 Buick Electra
'77 Oldsmobile Delta 88
'77 Buick Regal
'76 Cadillac Eldorado
I Remember those land yachts well. My uncle had a 74 Grand Prix, last year before they went with the rectangular headlights.
True. But with about every
performer, they all had songs
they probably wished they had
never released.
As far a cruising goes, there
was a time I was dizzy driving
“the loop”. Miss those days of
meeting up at the local Dairy
Queen.
I think you could blame the
cruising demise on the cell
phone.
Most kids today aren’t interested
in lots of chrome and high
horsepower. They just want a
kick-ass stereo and Facebook.
Beyond the Palace, hemi-powered drones
Scream down the boulevard
Girls comb their hair in rear-view mirrors
And the boys try to look so hard...
Good song, always liked it. But Bruce Springsteen is such left-wing schmuck in his politics, like so many in that business. Had commie icon Pete Seager performing with him on stage during Comrade Obama’s 2009 Inauguration on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
Bruce Springsteen...didn’t need
the link. I love hot rods. Building
one now. 1940 Plymouth Pickup.
Custom tube chassis, 446 cid
Mopar muscle. I love the look
of mid 60’s early 70’s. Car shows
are where the wares are exhibited
these days. Still got my
girlfriend by my side, though.
I was five when Mcdonalds burst
on the scene. Hamburgers 10 for
a buck.
Takes a lot to make this 76 year old Italian guy tear up and cry. That’s what you did with the opening song “Those Oldies But Goodies” by Little Caesar and the Romans. Reminds me of my days, late 50’s early 60’s, cruising the drag on Main St Hackensack NJ. With my ride and gal sitting next to me, only bench seats back then. Great memories.
Must save for later viewing........
