Dallas Mavericks No Longer Playing National Anthem Before Home Games

Mark Cuban decided before the start of the NBA season that the national anthem would not be played before Dallas Mavericks games, according to The Athletic.

So far, it has not been played before the franchise's 13 preseason and regular season home games.

This is believed to be the first instance of a professional team getting rid of the U.S. national anthem from the pre-game, according to The Athletic. Major League Soccer did not play the anthem during a tournament in 2020 in Orlando that did not have fans present, but teams have since started playing it prior to their home games.

The money I could have wasted on going to Senators games I instead spent on collecting NHL Vintage and CCM Heritage Sweaters to wear when I skate on the Rideau Canal or play a little outdoor shinny. A much happier and healthier activity, IMHO.

I recall reading an interview with Frank Mahovlich a few years back in which he said that the small number of times he’s bothered to watch an NHL game on TV, he notices almost everyone in the stands is that good deal younger compared to what it was like during his playing days (a mix of younger and older) and he figured that it’s because the father is busy working to help pay for those very expensive tickets, lol.

Thinking about the big picture, if you want to remove a national tradition such as playing the national anthem at major events--a small, but unifying moment where everyone in attendance comes together as Americans--this is the way you do it.

Sure, it's only one team's decision in a league whose audience attendance has surely dropped in these pandemic times, but it paves the way for others.

Think about it--if you remove the National Anthem from a sporting event, where else do you hear it?

And surely, if you can remove the anthem, not displaying the National Flag is next. What other symbols that we love will be removed from our culture?

1.) Identify a couple dozen like-minded patriots who are attending the game and who would be able and willing to sing our National anthem before the game, as the second half starts, and at end of game.

2.) Spread them out in the arena.

3.) Determine appropriate pitch for first note and make sure each vocalist has either a tuning fork or pitch pipe in order to start on the same note.

4.) Synchronize so that all vocalists start at the same time.

5.) Sing it loud and proud.

5.) Watch as some join in and others snap.

While I agree with the sentiment, what we are experiencing via REAL insurrection producing an illegitimate administration has nothing to do with the National Anthem. It is not meant to pay homage to current administrations but rather to the Nation itself and those who have sacrificed on its’ behalf. We cannot dishonor THAT just because the current hoard of lawmakers and justices are corrupt.

The NFL still has people like Tom Brady, who is still liked by a majority of Americans. Off the top of my head, I can't really think of any NBA player that I really like right now.

That's because Tom Brady is an American. Americans can relate to him.

NBA players are a bunch or thugs from the inner city so that the typical sports fan has nothing in common with them.
