Trizer Mwakinya, head of communications at the Kenya Wildlife Service, said Monday that workers from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company “were on site” to rectify the problem.

But conservationist Paula Kahumbu in tweets addressed to the power company and the wildlife agency said the power lines have been killing giraffes, vultures and flamingos.

Close to 1,400 Rothschild’s giraffes remain in the wild in the world and according to the International Union for the Conservation of Nature the species is not considered endangered anymore but is now in the near-threatened category.

“If they’re touching one wire each they musta been doin’ it to form a circuit.”

I suggest you stay away from anything over 1.5 volts.

Barney Fife : “Oh, a dog can’t get struck by lightning. You know why? Because he’s-he’s too close to the ground. See, lightning strikes tall things. Now, now if they was giraffes out there in that field, well then we’d be in trouble.”

You’d think the second one would see what happened.

But I suspect they were girl giraffes.

So they were talking endlessly and didn’t notice.

They should hire ERCOT from Texas as consultants. They have extensive experience ensuring there is no electricity flowing through the power lines.

I find this very sad. Giraffes are beautiful animals and are on the endangered species list. I visited the San Diego Zoo decades ago, and the Giraffes there were very friendly. One pulled down a branch she was nibbling so I could have a bite. Petted her on the nose—just briefly, I know they can bite.
