A gorilla and two lions have tested positive for Covid-19 at the Prague Zoo, which is closed amid lockdown restrictions in the country.
Richard, a western lowland gorilla, who was tested positive for Covid-19 on February 25, 2021, sits inside its enclosure at closed Prague Zoo amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) outbreak in Prague, Czech Republic, November 10, 2020.
“Lions Jamvan and Suchi and male gorilla Richard tested positive today. Their symptoms have been mild so far. The lions have a cold and cough. Richard is tired and lost his appetite,” Director Miroslav Bobek said on his Facebook account.
The animals were mostly likely infected by staff and other animals will be tested, Bobek said. Prague Zoo was in touch with other zoos that have seen Covid-19 cases.
In January, a troop of gorillas at the San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park suffered from an outbreak of Covid-19 that sickened several of the group’s eight members.
The Czech Republic has faced a renewed surge in Covid-19 cases that has pushed its infection rate among the highest in the world on a per capita basis.
Obviously this means masks don’t work, social distancing doesn’t work.
A chimp keeled over after receiving a vaccine.
In 1986, I felt bad, went to the doc & he told me I had an inner ear infection, bronchitis and the flu. Triple whammy put me flat on my back for two weeks. Thought I was gonna die and didn’t care. Said Lord, fix me or kill me, just pick one. Phew!
I’m glad the Czechs are checking their zoo animals. I’d hate to be the one to give the gorilla a Red Chinese-sized anal swab.
Yeah, those staff infections can be brutal!
Regards,
#6. Funny one re “staff infections” can be brutal.
Is this related to the old biblical saying, “Thy rod and thy staff they comfort thy”.
Also, I cannot conceive of an anal swab comforting anyone or any thing, esp. a gorilla. Hate to be the vet who has to give it to King Kong.
This is better than an EMP strike ... (to the Satanists)
ALL life is endangered !
We must be taxed MORE .... THAT'LL fix this, yup, yoo BET'cha' )
If only the animals were wearing masks.
Finally found Covid-19 patient zero!
There aren’t a lot of viruses that move this freely between so many disparate species, particularly airborne viruses. That’s just not how nature works. Very peculiar.
So the staff actually got within 6 feet of a gorilla or a lion? Doesn't sound like a good idea.....
So that paw-paw and goat had Covid in Tanzania all along?
What were they testing these critters for Covid for anyway?
Another victory for the misused PCR test.
Q. "Would you rather a gorilla chase you or a lion?"
A. "I'd rather the gorilla chase the lion."
