I believe that Columbus had nothing to do with zealous Franciscan friars implementing the Roman Catholic inquisition in America. They killed Indians in much the same way they killed heretics in Europe

Estimates for the total deaths related to the Inquisition in Europe, over more than 300 years, varies from 3,000 to 30,000. So, about 10 to 100 people a year.

Even less in the Americas.

Deaths from European diseases brought to the Americas - likely in the millions a year.

I read Zinn’s ridiculous, childish version of American history and was gratified to read Mary Grabar’s brilliant refutation of it (2020) and McClay’s “Land of Hope” (2020) U.S. history book, hot off the press.
The fact is, inevitable contacts between advanced societies and primitive ones result in conflict. There is little point in casting blame. The newcomers are vastly outnumbered and the indigenous are fiercely territorial. No matter how the story plays out, something’s gotta give.
So I made light of the marxist-inspired revisionism and cancelation of the present. History is good to know, provided that it is the truth.

Read years ago that the only wheel found in pre-European archeological digs was in Mexico and it was a small child’s toy cart. At the time they thought it was from China.

Was listening to an Andrew Klavan podcast yesterday. He had guest on that said the Inquisition really got crazy after the printing press became common. He compared it to today’s high tech spreading of information and cancel culture.
