I am not sure what happened, but starting yesterday morning on Winblows7, I can NOT connect to Free Republic with Firefox or Internet Explorer, If I use Brave it connects as Unsecure but it won't let me log in, it times out, I can scroll and read only. Firefox will only connect if I point it to the IP address and allow the cert exception, but it Won't let me Log in either. NO Problem with Any Other websites??

It is a dual boot machine, so I am using Ubuntu right now and everything works like it is supposed to???? Not sure what is happening, anyone here have any ideas??

I have the same problem except I can view FR in edge but cannot log in. Seems to be connected to the windows updates yesterday morning and even though I have removed then the problem persists. Sorry for typos using my phone to post this

Well that explains it. I'm running dual boot as well, Kubuntu and win7. I don't let windows get on the internet because it tends to catch bugs.

Same here; power went out and the batter on the mother board died so the date and time were off. Reset D/T and all was well.

Remember the 1990s?

Home computers were really finicky back then. You had to really know your stuff just to use them effectively. Never mind getting connected to the Internet. I had stacks of how-to books on things like FTP, Archie, Telnet and even editing my autoexec.bat and config.sys files just to get things to work better. Even with Windows 3.1, I found myself opening DOS windows all the time. Then trying to get your printer hooked up...those were the days.

Use System Restore to roll back your system to a time when it was working...say 2-3 days ago. See if that helps.

About everything has been mentioned in the comments already, but I’ll put this in, it may help to restart your modem radios or your router if it’s an altogether unit or a separate modem and wifi restart both. You can do this thru your browser or simply unplug and plug back in. Notice I said restart not reset if you reset you will have to inter all your info back in...

Comcast updates their data to the cable box every night. It varies from place to place. You usually get a warning and it allows you to skip it if you are watching.

I think one of the other suggestions will correct the problem. However, do check date and time Daylight savings and all.

Skydancer mentioned battries. How old is your machine? Have you ever changed the battery? They do lose power at some point and this changes the date/time. Usually an easy change (or a good excuse to upgrade to a newer computer!)

Good luck

I had a similar problem years ago. I could not even connect to fakebook.
Turned out firefox software is not real compatible with some websites. When I contacted them, they told me how to fix around this flaw. They would not fix it for me.

I told them to go to hell, deleted everything associated with firefox, and went with chrome ( i know chrome is a bad word here, but it works real good )...

havent had a problem since

I have a working laptop with XP running on it. Works fine and believe it or not, it updates on Avast, malwarebytes and other AV programs. It’s on an old reliable Dell XPS which never gave me problems.

DNS problem.

You might have your hosts file including a line:

45.79.56.181 www.freerepublic.com

Change that to

45.79.56.181 freerepublic.com

If you have entries using the old IP address, such as:

209.157.64.200 www.freerepublic.com

or

209.157.64.200 freerepublic.com

Change that to

45.79.56.181 freerepublic.com

Look through your Internet browser’s bookmarks. Edit so that

FreeRepublic.com Login is:

https://freerepublic.com/perl/login

FreeRepublic.com Search is:

https://freerepublic.com/focus/search

Anywhere you have something like:

http://www.freerepublic.com/ . . .

Change those to

https://freerepublic.com/ . . .

AH yes. Those were the days when someone forgot to close a tag, and everything after that in all the comments were italics, or bold, or large size, or red. Until someone closed the tag in their comment.

Yes, those were the days.

I was really smart back then, because I could use DOS and fix almost anything.

Today, I feel stupid.

How to edit your hosts file:

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/27350/beginner-geek-how-to-edit-your-hosts-file/

If you do not have an entry:

45.79.56.181 freerepublic.com

You might enter such an entry.
