We don’t any have major gripes with canned foods, especially since they’re a convenient way to save time while making a complex recipe, an enormous meal, a quick side, or soup for one. However, there are a number of canned foods throughout the ages that crossed the line, in our humble opinion. We’re talking about both odd meat and foods that simply shouldn’t be canned for one reason or another. With that in mind, here are the 15 weirdest foods ever (and in many cases, still) available in a can.

And it has garlic. A bonus. I eat the chunks right out of the can with a toothpick.
You can easily dry them on a screen or in a fancier dehydrator. Mine is made by Presto - bought it a few years ago. It’s got all the bells and whistles. I just love it.
I mainly dry small homegrown paste tomatoes (Juliet or Valentine) which I then put in oil and spices and keep in the fridge. Beau eats them like candy. The dehydrator is also a great way to make jerky and a friend is obsessed with making fruit roll-ups, which don’t appeal to me in the least.

I bought mine on sale at Farm & Fleet, and had a $25 gift card, so it was well worth it. Presto is a Wisconsin company, too. On, Wisconsin! :)

Hi.
Methinks you are a highly intelligent guy...Some of those C-rats weren’t so bad. Even the ham and eggs.

I worked with a guy who ran a small gold mine in Arizona. Said he had an itinerant welder who lived in his own car and mixed Alpo with Kraft Mac 'n Cheese to "make a good casserole".
“...mixed Alpo with Kraft Mac ‘n Cheese to, ‘make a good casserole.’”
OMG! I grew up poor* in, ‘The People’s Republic of Milwaukeestan.’ Grandma used make Mac-N-Cheese (homemade, with Free Government Cheese!) and added a can of shredded Corned Beef to it.
Maybe she WAS adding ALPO, because the taste and the smell were pretty much the same, LOL!
What an olfactory memory you just triggered! I’m gonna go call my Mom and see what she remembers. ;)
*Poor = never missed a meal! My Dad was working on his various apprenticeships then, earning 25-cents an hour; Mom was a Secretary (making the Big Bucks, LOL!) and Grandma took care of me during the day.
:-)
Why?
because you can?
