‘Delta’ COVID-19 Variant Likely to Become Dominant in US: CDC Director

The head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the “Delta” variant of COVID-19 could become the most common strain of the virus in the United States.

“It’s more transmissible than the Alpha variant, or the UK variant, that we have here,” Dr. Rochelle Walensky told ABC News last week. “We saw that quickly become the dominant strain in a period of one or two months, and I anticipate that is going to be what happens with the Delta strain here.”

Health officials, including Walensky, have said that current COVID-19 vaccines remain effective against the strain.

The Delta variant, also known as B.1.617.2, was first identified late last year. Officials said that it spread rapidly throughout India earlier this year before spreading to dozens of other countries.

President Joe Biden, meanwhile said he doesn’t believe the Delta variant will prompt lockdowns like the ones that were authorized by state and local governments last year.

“I don’t think so because so many people have already been vaccinated,” Biden said Friday at the White House. “But the Delta variant can cause more people to die in areas where people have not been vaccinated,” he added. “So, no, it’s not a lockdown, but some areas will be very hurt.”

Officials with the World Health Organization (WHO) last week said the strain has spread to about 80 countries, including the United States, while noting that it makes up 10 percent of all COVID-19 cases in the country. That’s up from 6 percent last week, according to WHO officials.

“What I think this means is that there is an additional mutation that has been identified,” said Maria Van Kerkhove, the U.N. agency’s COVID-19 technical head, reported CNBC. “In some of the delta variants we’ve seen one less mutation ”

Beta is the South African variant

Gamma is the Brazilian Manaus variant

Delta is the Indian variant

They use the Greek Alphabets to avoid stigmatizing countries ( as in “The China Virus” ).

I just hope and pray there will be no more variants. Worse case is we run out of Greek alphabets....

I have one friend who agrees with me on almost everything. Amazing guy. His wife great too, brilliant attorney.

BUT....They got the Pfizer shot the first week it was out and last week gave their 12 year old son the vaccine.

My wife and I will never ever get it.

I’m fortunate enough to live in a country where I can buy hydroxichloroquine and ivermectin without prescription (Hint: ivermectin is also made for dogs - often at cheaper prices) so I’ve got my own “vaccine” should I need it. I’m just not going to allow anyone to f—k with my DNA, particularly over something that’s 99% survivable.

And even if I’m wrong about it, I probably have less than 20 years left and then I’m on to better places. It would be foolish to get such dangerous shots now.

Last time I looked, the mutation total was up to the Greek letter Kappa. Those mutations past Delta were not safe, but they were not more dangerous than Delta. So Delta is the one we’re hearing about. There will be more mutations and the odds are most are not serious, but there are so many trillions upon trillions of viral particles now that it is inevitable worse mutations will appear. The numbers work against us.

It is important to understand the definition of booster. A booster is an additional dose of it exactly the same original vaccine. Another injection designed to counter some new mutation is not a booster. That is a new vaccine. Flu shots change every year because the likely flu virus in a given year changes.

It is also important to realize that you will not be told when a really bad nutation appears. Those who discover it and realize what it means will have sequestered their own families first before you hear about anything. The conspiracy folks who are sure the vaccines are a plot against humanity are looking in the wrong place. The thing to suspect is not vaccines. It is the Perpetual good news we are fed every day about declining death counts. Those happened last year to before there were any vaccines. And then the mutants began to appear. That will continue.

Any variant which spreads more readily will become dominant. The April 2020 variant became dominant over the original Wuhan virus very quickly. It basically took over world infections over the course of 5 weeks.

The existing approved vaccines in the US are about 90% effective against the Delta (India) variant in NIH testing. No reason to worry about this one. No reason to worry about any of the variants currently out. Just keep moving forward.

92 years old and no vaccine? That’s interesting, the acceptance of mortality.

Some European countries now limiting the vax to those under 60.
Avoiding it over 90 is a crapshoot. The ChiCom Virus is effective at taking down people at that age.

They manufactured it for that objective and reportedly modeled the impact on the US.
