Building collapse horrifies residents of Miami Beach condominium with ‘unsafe structure’ warning (built in 1971)

On Monday, several residents at Maison Grande Condominium, an 18-story building with 502 units, said they are worried about the safety of the 1971 building at 6039 Collins Ave., in Miami Beach. They have photographs showing corroded steel and concrete spalling.

Records show there have been five inspections that determined the building is an “unsafe structure.” The building envelope is among the list of concerns. There were also warnings that the two-story parking garage and pool deck “have reached the end of their useful life and require repair, replacement,” or “a combination thereof.”

You wait — the dems will insist that we pay for replacements of these buildings.

There was a brand new Condo / Hotel Building built on the Vegas Strip that was so badly built it was never allowed to be occupied.

It had to be dismantled piece by piece before it collapsed on its own.

Climate change with a huge heaping of infrastructure makes sense. After the rebuild a real-estate firm will be the new owners, with Hunter Biden and Mitt Romneys kid on the board.

The new building will exclude anyone making less than "The Big Guy" from buying a unit.

I watched Mexican workers build two stories of a new hotel in cancun. About 10 guys and five gallon buckets with a hand operated bender for the rebar. They did it in one week. They still had around six more stories to go when we left.

I wonder what banks are holding the paper on those condos??

My guess is they are underwater financially and perhaps physically now.

If I were an owner of a unit there with renters in the unit I would get them the hell out of that building!! If I were renting a unit there I would get the hell out on my own!!! As an owner living there your life is not worth playing Russian roulette staying in that building it sucks yes but not worth your life!!

A good concrete finisher could patch that right up. Slap a coat of paint on it and it should look fine. They didn’t even care enough to cover up the problems.

The banks are not worried. Now, the condo owners that is another story.

It was always interesting to look at building projects in Baja California south of San Diego. The architecture looked pretty impressive, but sometimes the building would be abandoned long before completion. The empty shell would stand there for years. Huge condos right next to the ocean, yet people weren’t living in them.

Considering Mexican construction standards, I can see why people might be reluctant to buy. Mexican sidewalks are dicey at best.

My guess is they are underwater financially and perhaps physically now.

A few hundred securitized loans aren't going to be a blip on the balance sheet of a megabank.

The building that partially collapsed had 342 units. Average sales price per unit over the last 12 months was $736,250. https://www.miamiresidence.com/surfside/champlain-towers.htm
