Why Is Stalin's Popularity On the Rise?
Moscow Times ^ | July 2021 | Andrei Kolesnikov

Posted on 07/27/2021 11:33:32 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

In May 2021, 56 percent of Russians polled by the independent Levada Center agreed that Stalin was a “great leader” — double the figure in 2016, when the Stalinization of mass consciousness had already been a clear trend for several years.

To people outside of Russia, it might seem deeply shocking and incomprehensible that Stalin’s popularity is growing at such a pace. Yet it is an entirely natural consequence of the policy advanced and sponsored by the Russian state of historical amnesia.

Attitudes to Stalin in Russia are intrinsically tied to the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II, over which Stalin presided, and which has become the sacred cornerstone of modern Russian identity. Now the Russian elites are privatizing that victory to shore up the position of the ruling regime. The Russian parliament has passed a new law making it illegal to equate the wartime actions of the Soviets with Nazi Germany. In July 2021, Vladimir Putin signed the document, which also prohibits denying the “decisive role” of the Soviet people in the victory over fascism.

Just a few years ago, the idea of a state-owned news agency questioning well-known facts about the Katyn massacre — in which thousands of Polish officers were shot dead by the Soviets — would have been impossible: it seemed that the days of blaming the Germans were long over. Yet that is precisely what happened last year. Today, the limits of what is acceptable — both ethically and in terms of the treatment of facts — are expanding, and red lines are being trampled with impudence and abandon.

In a different article, the same state-owned news agency described time spent in the notorious Gulag prison camps as a “ticket to a better life.” ...

Russia isn't the only place with historical amnesia...Wouldn't be surprised if young Americans have favorable views of him too -- or just NOT know who he is at all.

Well, you can’t buy a Confederate ‘Stars and Bars’ flag on Amazon. But there are quite a few Stalin shirts to choose from.

Same reason that Russians admire Ivan the Terrible.

I know a while back they were trying to move this memorial from Exchange Place in Jersey City because as downtown JC has become "gentrified" the wokester progenitors don't want their children to see this. It might give their children an insight into the evils of Communism.

The new globalists have no problem overlooking the hundreds of millions murdered by communists. The reality of so much suffering doesn’t begin to penetrate the bubble they reside in, which means it can happen again. If Hitler hadn’t lost the war, there would be shrines and holidays to commemorate the SS heroes who ran Auschwitz, Dachau and the rest of the death camps. The left in America today is perfectly capable of duplicating such atrocities.

>>The new globalists have no problem overlooking the hundreds of millions murdered by communists.

Bill Gates and other globalists have indicated they believe there are SEVERAL BILLION too many people in the world today.

Nobody can pin them down on how or where they will “prune” the excess population.

The real difference between Stalin and Hitler...

Zhukov.

Stalin was one lucky Сукин сын since, when he killed off all of his good officers in the 1937 purge, Zhukov somehow survived.

Hitler would have won Operation Barbarossa if he had actually stuck to the original plan, went straight to Moscow with his main force and swooped south to take over the oil fields, but he couldn't help himself and sent half his troops to Stalingrad instead. If Adolf had listened to his generals, it would never have happened.
