Florida Republican Congresman Matt Gaetz has been exonerated after 62-year-old Stephen Alford was recently indicted by the Department of Justice for extortion.
"Stephen M. Alford did knowingly and willfully devise, and intent to devise, a scheme to defraud and for obtaining money and property by means of material false and fraudulent pretenses, representations, and promises, and for the promise of executing such scheme, did cause, and attempt to cause, a wire communication to be transmitted in interstate commerce," the indictment states.

I am surprised that the DOJ did this and that it is also being reported in the NYT, though likely not with the same fanfare as the original allegation.

A lot of Freepers will be disappointed. Never understood how so many people just ate up the nonsensical allegations against Gaetz and how those allegations came about. It was an obvious attempt to silence him by ruining his reputation. And more than a few on the right fell for it.

Lots of DNC trolls here on FR. Many of them are volunteers, but I suspect a few of them are on the Soros payroll.

It was an obvious attempt to silence him by ruining his reputation. And more than a few on the right fell for it. It was an obvious attempt to show other hardcore President Trump supporters in FedGov what was in store for them if they were as outspoken as Gaetz continues to be.
Finally, as with everything especially these days: a lie gets half-way around the world before the truth gets its pants on. Frankly, I'm surprised DOJ followed through to actually get to the truth and indict the extortionist. DOJ has a habit of stopping at the allegations against Trump Supporters and indicting us!

I remember how quick they were to toss Gaetz overboard with the reasoning "where there's smoke, there's fire."

A lot of Freepers will be disappointed. You mean the paid far left trolls who have taken permanent residence here on FR to push a far left agenda?
To: LIConFem
Yep. Some FReepers actually believed the New York Times and took their word over that of Matt Gaetz.

The scum that did this to Matt Gaetz probably had to wind it up as they only have two weeks to gin up a bombshell on Larry Elder.

Rushing to judgement is an entirely common human error. But by now at least conservatives should have learned some restraint. Especially when it comes to proven leftwing liars attacking a Republican.
