Yup. The cranial size range between Neandertal and Cro (caw! caw!) Magnon overlaps, but N is larger. This probably doesn’t amount to much, because their bodies were more massive, and a larger brain was needed to run everything.

So while a Gibraltar Neanderthal sect never made it to the Neanderthal Disney on the Black Sea, maybe there was still just enough ritual travel to, say, pre-historic Gaul to keep the bloodlines from producing a one-eyed Centaur. Maybe.
Think of them as medieval monastery sects. Well, those relied on one another, and when a sufficient number in the network failed or were overrun, so did the whole.
My personal belief is that they were intentionally snuffed out by Cro-magnon in some 500-year event, for their treasure, their locales/caves, and the elimination of competition.
The fact that most people carry DNA found in the relatively few Neander-samples means, they are our among our honored ancestors. Period.

That “last of the Neanderthals” is just click bait. There have been other finds more recent than that.
I doubt there was ever a Neanderthal as fat as this guy.
It is true, Africans show little trace of Neanderthal genes. Their color difference is specifically an evolutionary development to protect tthe hem from absorbing too much Vitamin D from the sun. Have you ever noticed some really dark Negros with a dry dark gray color. Some probably also have less skin oil to also reduce the amount of oil on the skin to produce Vitamin D. In fact these differences most likely explain the 2 and 1/2 excess of Black deaths over that of whites. In fact the failure of our government under either administration to urge people, especial black people, and especially in the north and in the winter, borders on criminal negligence.
It was recently announced that 10,000 ya British people in coastal areas had dark skin. THey would have had access to a seafood diet rich in Vitamin D. It is speculated that the Neanderthals were very fair and may have been blue-eyed redheads like my husband. This is called the “Ginger Gene” and found in about 40% of people in Scotland and northern Ireland. Having lived in many inland places in Europe they would have needed to be able to absorb more Vitamin D to maintain strong bones and wide hips in females for childbirth. The reason that “Gentlemen prefer blonds” is that they often had better hip structure for childbearing.
