Matsuko and USA’s Divine (Hairspray) are seen to be very
similar.

Never been a fan of Subway; Schlotzsky’s being more my taste.
Their bread!! Oh, do love their bread.

“If you look back at TV shows... Bonanza and Little House...”

Failed to mention sitcoms like
“Leave It To Beaver”
“Father Knows Best”
“Andy Griffith Show”,
even the “Donna Reed Show”

Classic TV shows: entertainment exceeds the trash
on the tube these days. Today we’ve an
over abundance of darkness,
lewdness, evil, and Lucifer.

Old enough to long for the Fifties.

You’re right - it was more ‘food for thought’ - different perspectives on the destructive insanity of ‘victim groups’ as political force.

That said, you’re right about the Japanese... but 60 years ago blacks had a marriage rate identical to whites, very few ‘out of wedlock’ births and strong communities. They owned bushiness and kept their neighborhoods together under horrible conditions - forming a culture that had survived slavery. Democrats tossed that (with urban renewal, faithless homes, and toxic incentives) creating what we have today - a loyal and dependent victim group. The same tactics used to destroy the black community could have destroyed working class white communities IF they had offered more ‘dependent money’ at the beginning of the Great Society.

So could this be done to a vibrant socially cohesive Japanese US community? With the proper toxic incentives it’s possible.

Hey, V. K. Good list of sitcoms. Even the Flintstones and Jetsons would fall under this category.

Well now that Subway has RappinHo and this Providence RI idiot as their spokespeople, maybe it’s time to switch to Schlotzsky’s.

The 50’s were quite the decade. My favorite movies were made in that period.

Actually, I was surprised, but a good movie for helping understand the former solid black neighborhoods of 60 years back is the movie The Gospel According to Andre.

That's Andre Leon Talley of Vogue magazine. The movie is quite good as long as you can tolerate brief interludes with Whoopi Goldberg and a few others.

Here's the YouTube trailer keyed up to the point when he describes his morally strong grandmother and his neighborhood as a kid.

Whoopi is the lesser of the two evils.

Following Andre’s spoken word is reminiscent of days
gone by.
Yes, everyone needs a tall, old tree. Still standing
and still offering shelter. This is where the clan
gathered when visiting great grandmother’s farm during
the summer months. We ate under the wide limbs. Spoke
of family, friends and life. Later the hand crank
ice cream machine made its appearance and we turned the handle until we froze that
homemade peach ice cream.

Andre then lost me after praising Bo’s bride and her
oratory. “She should be given a Nobel Prize?! “ Nevermore. Nevermore. Of course, she did not receive a Noble Prize. Not certain she deserved the Grammy prize. This former ‘princess’ must have been ‘a few others’ in your reference.

The life stories of Charles Payne and Dr. Ben Carson are just as compelling. They, too, matured while being raised by strong females.

Must confess, not an avid reader of magazines. Bill Clinton’s reign cured me of such habits. The propaganda seen during this time was too great to attempt to stomach.
Went cold turkey and stopped paying for the trash, dropped
subscriptions and passed on by when shopping in the stores.

That being said, these days when ‘Andre’ might be mentioned
first come to mind would be “champagne”. :-)

.. he admitted he did it because he was trying to draw attention to his films and music

Another fine product of participation trophies and time-outs?

There just aren’t enough Japanese left; they are going extinct.

The enemedia has successfully pulled people further apart with the “divide-and-conquer” strategy; at this point nobody cares about anybody else. Even if someone looks like you, they may be a dog lover instead of a cat person...

Had a similar experience visiting former neighbors who owned a small apple farm. They had an apple press that required turning. Lovely autumn day. Kids running around. Parents chatting and laughing.

Something about squeezing juice from fruits brings back the simpler and more soul-satisfying family time that Americans of an earlier age enjoyed.

For the past few years, we’ve been watching “Midsomer Murders”, “a who done it?” filmed in Great Britain. The series has its own channel which plays episodes around the clock.

Your mention of apples and presses reminds of one episode:
“Night of the Stag”. Murder, apples, apple cider, a machine known as a tree shaker.
Murder: man was found in a keg of apple cider after being killed with that tree shaker. The addition certainly gave a ‘tang’ to the homemade apple cider. Most unusual way of
disposing of the body.

Never having seen such a machine (powered by diesel), watching as the job was done was a unique experience. Vices grab the tree trunk and shake it like there was no tomorrow.
Apples fall to the grand, covered by netting, which is then lifted, apples processed. Watching that machine in action was certainly a unique experience. No hand picking of Eve’s favorite fruit Of course, there was no hand cranked presses to be found. Squeezing juice from an apple must certainly be
similar to squeezing blood from a stone. And progress marches on.

This would make a nice Subway “refresh” commercial.

Maybe we can borrow that apple tree-shaker of yours. I’d like to see if shaking a few politicians might bear fruit. :- )
