The Salt Lake Tribune’s editorial board has a power-tripping leftist dream

The editorial board members’ abject panic about COVID sees them imagining using guns against their fellow citizens to protect themselves from a virus.

I lived most of my life in leftist cities with leftist newspapers. Having lived in the more conservative Southeast lately, I’ve been rather surprised to find that the urban papers are just as leftist, perhaps even more leftist. That may help explain why the Salt Lake City Tribune, which operates in a state that voted overwhelmingly for Trump, announced that the state’s National Guard should imprison people without vaccinations in their own homes.

Salt Lake City is a lovely place. Situated in the foothills of the Wasatch Range, it’s built on a logical grid emanating from the Mormon Temple at the heart of the city. The roads are wide and well-maintained, the streets are clean, and the people are friendly. I’ve been there several times and always enjoyed my visits. Unlike the rest of Utah, Salt Lake City is a Democrat city. While Utah generally voted 58.1% for Trump versus 37.6% for Biden, Salt Lake gave Biden 53.6% of its votes and Trump got 42.5%.

Nevertheless, even that Democrat tilt doesn’t explain the editorial that came from the Salt Lake Tribune editorial board. The editorial board began by blaming Governor Spencer Cox for the fact that there are too few tests in the state and, therefore, telling people who feel sick to do what people who feel sick have always done: Stay home. (I was kind of under the impression that Biden blew it on the tests but, because I feel that most testing is neurotic and not useful, I haven’t paid a lot of attention to the issue.)

The editors next blamed Utah’s government, generally, mostly Republicans, for being “apparently determined not to be caught governing

From the SLT editorial:

We might have headed off omicron with a herd immunity-level of vaccinations, but that would have required a vaccination mandate, which our leaders refused. Instead, we get, “No one could have seen this coming.” That is patently untrue. They were told what to do, and they refused.

Were Utah a truly civilized place, the governor’s next move would be to find a way to mandate the kind of mass vaccination campaign we should have launched a year ago, going as far as to deploy the National Guard to ensure that people without proof of vaccination would not be allowed, well, anywhere.

Salt Lake Tribune? No thanks we already have plenty of toilet paper.

“Salt Lake City is a lovely place.” You would really love the smog/inversions northern Utah gets this time of year. If you missed out on the air in 1970s LA this is your chance to experience it. And two high school freshmen just got killed by a 14 year old from a rival high school.

Why? Doesn’t surprise me one bit. I cannot stand having to watch our side go through its learning curve. In this case, does she think they pull people off of farms and ranches to work for the local newspapers. So, lady, it don’t work that way. They ALL come out of the SAME colleges, with the same degrees (Journalism or Communications)...so why should they act any different if they end up in Salt Lake, or Augusta, GA, rather than Baltimore?

This IS NOT difficult to figure out - but you do have to put 5 minutes into it.

Parts of SLC are still lovey and safe, namely the tourist areas around the Mormon owned temple square and vicinity. This is because it is well patrolled and they don't tolerate disorder.

Go three blocks away to ML King Blvd, and it is like any other s#*+hole big city. Part of this is due to their welcoming policy for immigrants without regard to whether they are legal or illegal, high quality or low quality. Thus, the skew in voting patterns between the city and the once fairly homogeneous state as a whole.

The SL Tribune was founded to counter Mormon influence in the city and has since morphed into your typical statist rag,

And now their ED at the paper is complaining she’s getting hate mail after she called for the NG to forcefully lock people in their houses. Look at her sick sycophants in comment. Vile puta!

We might have headed off omicron with a herd immunity-level of vaccinations

The researchers in South Africa who discovered "omicron" were very careful to note that it was a very mild variant, and not much to be concerned about.

We see what happened when the Leftist media got ahold of it.

Encourage everyone you know from the area to unsubscribe from the SLT if they have not already. My first cousin unsubscribed because of their continued r support for Romney. The Paper has been left wing for a long time but only paper with local news and they control major local online news.

The SLC Tribune editorial board is composed of Knowledge Class elites that have no real connection with the people of their community

Paul Huntsman, chairman, owner of the Tribune and member of the super wealthy Huntsman family that have opposed Trump and the working class

Lauren Gustus, former editor of Sacramento Bee newspaper chain in California

Dave Patel - academic political “scientist” Utah State University

Michelle Quist - RINO republican attorney

George Pile - opinion editor, journalist

Editorial boards should reflect the community. Where is there a member of the Tribune Board like, say, Eric Hoffer, who was a writer and longshoreman? Or a member of the religious community who is not a member of the Knowledge Class?
