Dairy Queen celebrates 75 years in Texas, asks customers to share favorite DQ memories

Years ago, when driving my just purchased Chrysler 300 from Katy to Dallas I noticed the same Home Depot and Dairy Queen on the west side of the highway every 20 miles. It was like the background in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

My folks would take my mom and six brothers and sisters to DQ when we were growing up and you could either get a vanilla cone or a Dilly bar. My dad didn’t want to remember 8 different orders. He’s 88 and we still give him hell about it.

Hardee’s still has a good one, but this town is an interstate pit stop on the state line and is so overrun with fast food joints, they closed ours years ago.

If you are in Alabama, Culver's has been moving in. They have a very good Mushroom Swiss burger. I missed Culver's when we lived in Georgia, but we moved to AZ before they started opening up. I would have gone to the one in Phenix City, .

And nothing has been the same after that. To this day, when I see a Dairy Queen...

Pineapple belongs on pizza!

Maybe you don't really like pizza. A Canadian corruption pretending to be Hawaiian does not belong on a pizza. One of the pizza chains in Canada is "Houston Pizza", THAT's how clueless Canada is on pizza.

From 1977-1990 I owned three Dairy Queens in northern California. Paid gallonage and food royalties to American Dairy Queen in Minneapolis. In 1988 the territory of my location was sold to a middle man/territory operator from Seattle. He convinced me to remodel all stores as he was flush with money after selling the Seattle area. After investing nearly one million dollars he ran out of money. Lawyers won, we both lost. DQ has good products but poor management.

My favorite DQ memories were when they served ice cream. I have no idea what the stuff is today but it tastes like fat-free artificial goo.

DQ is still the place to go. Love it. Great ice cream cones, dipped cones, chicken and or steak baskets and the good ol hunger buster burgers.

As a kid in Houston’s Southeast side, we’d collect coke bottles with 2 cent, 5 cent returns on them to get enough to buy an ice cream cone at DQ.

It is and he knows it’s in jest. He and my mother are both alive and we had them over for dinner yesterday to meet their second great grandchild. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary last year.
