At the end of David Fincher’s 1999 cult classic Fight Club, Edward Norton’s character the narrator kills off his imaginary alter ego Tyler Durden – played by Brad Pitt – and then watches as multiple buildings explode.
The imagery cuts to the heart of the film’s message: a plan to bring down modern civilisation is under way.
Over 20 years on, this anarchist and anti-capitalist message has been given a new makeover – with Chinese characteristics.
In the version newly available on streaming platform Tencent Video, the narrator still kills off Durden, but the exploding building scene is replaced with a black screen and a coda: “The police rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals, successfully preventing the bomb from exploding.”
It adds that Tyler – a figment of the narrator’s imagination – was sent to a “lunatic asylum” for psychological treatment and was later discharged.

But Tyler was never seen by anyone after his ‘discharge’. Friends believe that he now resides in various high CCP members as organ transplants.
First rule about fight club.....
“this anarchist and anti-capitalist message”
WTF?
“Fight Club” was an “Eff You, I ain’t playin’ your gane anymore” movie.
Shedding the pansy, panty waist, soy boy social construct, MEN stood up and took back their souls.
Interesting that the mass-resignations from crap jobs, folks linig up to get guns. massive relocations to FREE states, amd a surge in efforts for alternative value stores kind of match up to the themes in the movie.
Fight Club was a “Declaration of Independence” for the Alternative, Wynona Ryder crowd. Also for the Punk Rock Right of RWR Supporters.
A very groovy movie indeed.
Totally concur 💯
LoL!
A guy who lived in China and is critical of the regime did a video about this a couple days ago. Channel is “Serpentza” on youtube.
I’d like to know how David Fincher feels about this.
“What do you think happened next? Hold a discussion with fellow movie-goers and discussion group leaders. Drawings for prizes will be held for attendees that supply contact information.”
I remember when a Christian group as editing out bad parts of movies and letting people rent the movies. Hollywood was sky screaming in horror.
Now? Not a peep from Chinese censorship.
Spoiler alert.
Never have watched the movie (true), probably because nobody ever talked about it. /s
I guess they missed the part about all the Fight Club members in the police dept.
I am surprised they did not show it resulting in the election of Barack Obama.
A very groovy movie indeed.
