The IRS will soon make taxpayers upload a selfie to access certain tax tools.
“Starting in summer 2022, if you need to login to the IRS’s website to access the Child Tax Credit Update Portal, get your tax transcript or view a payment agreement with the agency, you will need to create an account with third-party identity verification company ID.me,” CNBC reported. “A simple username and password will no longer suffice: You will need to provide a government document with a photo, such as a driver’s license, state ID or passport, and take a video selfie with your smartphone or computer.”
An IRS spokesperson told CNBC that taxpayers can still pay or file their taxes “without submitting a selfie or other information to a third-party identity verification company” by using bank accounts, credit cards, and similar means. However, CNBC again emphasized that doing the aforementioned “basic things” — as well as “applying for payment plans” and “monitoring stimulus checks” — will require facial identification.

I was still able to get IRS docs sent to my US mailing address on record, without this nonsense.
Just more personal ID info online, I don’t trust govt sites, more bait for hackers of the world.
This is a photo ID. If it stands, compel states to query this database for ALL voters in federal elections.
And yet requiring the same to vote is racist and too difficult for the People of Color.
ID.me is now the #1 target for Chinese and Russian hackers.
And I’m going to put my money on the hackers.

Over the years, our personal and financial info has been stolen from the following governmental agencies:
-Veteran’s Admin
-OPM, (Federal) Office of Personnel Management
-South Carolina Dept of Revenue
While we’ve netted some free, long-running credit-monitoring services out of these snafus...at this point, I wouldn’t trust the government to guard my dog, much less my face.
This is not like showing a photo ID in person to prove that you are who you say you are.
You are sending a digital image. To what are they comparing it? Are they merely using their muscle to feed a surveillance system?
Maybe someone should just say the plan is racist because it requires you to have a certain form of technology.
Symphony Bank cancelled my Lowes card when I refused to do this.
I applied (didn’t need it but we just built a new home and I thought it would be an easy way to keep track of spending on the house so far as landscaping and fencing) and my first charge was flagged as fraud.
I got a text that I needed to upload a video of my face in order to proceed. I called the fraud dept and was treated like crap, like I was a criminal for not wanting to do that.
I was told the images/video was going to the Philippines and I refused. They had everything they needed to ensure it was me. They ended up canceling my credit card, affecting my credit score. I went from 820 to 715 as a result of them canceling and when I asked why it was canceled, they said I opened a credit card which lowered it. It was their credit card I opened.

Not sure, but I think they’re going to get a picture of my Siamese Cat or maybe me in a PDJT mask.
Come to think of it - everyone should wear a PDJT mask and send it in to these perverted thieves.
